watch 17173.com SC2 World Cup instead, Maka (a/THE? top Korean Terran) is playing tonight in the semis
Nice, going to have to watch this one.
Also for Western US folks, I heard that this http://geexshow.com is going to have a SC2 Beta Tournament for people in the beta.
Everybody who has ever whined about TvZ mech needs to stop posting and start watching Maka(T) v. Coolfou from the 17173 SC2 World Cup semis.
I’m a huge SC fan but to be honest I probably won’t even buy SC2 at this point. Don’t get me wrong though, the actual game itself if good (like ridiculously fucking good to the point where I felt they may have struck lightning twice with this new entry). The problem I’m having is that the new Battle.Net 2.0 is turning out to be complete shit and Blizzard has absolutely no interest in changing it. No chat rooms, no cross realm play, and the worst offender of all NO FUCKING LAN SUPPORT!!! Like seriously WTF at the last one. Are we seriously going to have to run tournaments with every fucking computer hooked up to the Internet? I doubt anyone would be willing to wire all that shit up and if we do WiFi it could turn into a complete mess. Worst of all what happens if Battle.Net goes down for maintenance on the same day as a tournament they were unaware of? This is just complete fucking bull shit. I’ve been patiently waiting, praying, and hoping things would change but I’ve just given up hope. Fuck this shit.
Setting up WiFi is easy these days. A god damn monkey could do it.
B.net being down while a tournament or whatever needs to be run is a problem, although I’m sure some people will create hacks/have private servers you can connect to, kind of like ICCUP.
Husky explains it best… Don’t think I’ll be buying either, even though I hit rank 1 in diamond, this b.net 2.0 is total garbage.
KITTENS!!! Aw, so cute.
Blizzard has been fucking up, especially the entire Kespa mess.
Yeah, but 200 people with have to connect to bnet through the same connection.
I also forgot to say that was a great comparison to EA and Westwood and how EA killed the CC RA franchise.
Agreed. New bnet is terrible. SC2 is a great game, but there are so many bad things about the online implementation. I won’t be buying this because it has no cross-region support
Setting up WiFi is easy, doesn’t make it reliable. Having a large amount computers all connected to the same WiFi network can cause some serious problems. Ranging from lag to outright crashing. Wires are the preferred method but that can end up being expensive. Ideally we could just run tournament like we did with SC:BW by using LAN connections with wires. But of course there is no LAN support in SC2, so we’re forced to connect to the Internet to run an “IN PERSON TOURNAMENT”. I can’t think of any other competitive game that has been forced to do such a thing. If the Internet goes down, Battle.Net goes down, we have some bad weather, etc. all of that can fuck up running a simple tournament.
Pretty much sums up everything.
It’s like the description for the husky video. Blizzard is a restaurant that you’ve always trusted, SC2 is a new meal on the menu which is like SC:BW and just as good if not better. The problem is that there’s a new staff called Battle.Net 2.0 which has replaced the original Battle.Net staff and they’re a bunch of jack asses. So despite the fact that you’ve eaten at the Blizzard restaurant many times before and absolutely love their new SC2 meal, dealing with the new Battle.Net 2.0 staff just isn’t worth it.
Ya i canceled my pre order of this game because of all the news about battle.net 2.0. The reason why this game is so good is not just because of the gameplay its because of the community and the custom games. Another thing that just made me angry was having to buy a new copy of the game to play with someone in another region. I have a lot of aussie friends I have made over the year and having to pay to play with them is ridiculously stupid. So until blizzard puts in some form of LAN and chat channels and also allows cross regional gaming without paying money they can count me out.
A friend of mine released a cracked version of SC2 the same week that the beta went up, which doesn’t require Blizzard’s BNET 2.0 to play. Not having LAN support is just going to encourage people to pirate the game. I bought SC and the entire Diablo series since the start and have been enjoying them but the direction Blizzard is taking is making me not want to buy SC2 nor D3.
Those networks tunnel through LAN. Those programs won’t work without LAN . Making online tournaments/leagues impossible.
And the reason people had to resort to those in the first place was because the b.net latency was terrible. SC and Warcraft 3 lived off of iccup and GGC, respectively.
Wow, that’s terrible news about the lack of LAN.
I hope Blizzard’s trolling.
the thing here that is a hidden danger is that they are making SCII into a one time play only game. By limiting your multiplayer game experience, they are limiting the amount of times you want to go online. It’s clear as day to me that if I can’t hang out on b.net with friends, then I will simply play another. Now, I’m sure SC2 is going to sell great… BUUTTT, how many people will play it for longer than a month? And how many people are going to want to purchase the expansion sets? NOT ME!
the expansions are just campaigns right?
No, they are updates as well. So they could add new dynamics, i.e. units. But, if the first one has left such a bad taste in your mouth, I doubt you would want to try the second entree. THAT is the danger that I’m not sure they can avoid with this idiotic business model. I can only hope that they don’t fuck up diablo 3…
you mean more than they already have?
The game will sell like a blockbuster phenomenon and everyone around the world will play it and the entire computer gaming world will adjust accordingly because its sc2
