That was done on purpose to cater to the hardcore Pro Starcraft scene in Korea. Personally, I’d pay 50 bucks for Starcraft I with a new coat of paint and new units (Starcraft II).
After playing a lot of games, I have to say I’m very very satisfied with how things turned out. I thought the new macro system would make it too easy but with the mule, chronos, and queen you still have to make the choice whether to pay attention to macro or micro. The new multi buildings per hotkey is very nice as well as smart spell casting.
Couple of tips I picked up:
when you have multiple types of units or buildings selected, you can hit TAB to select the sub group. So if you have 2 raxes with addon and 2 without hotkeyed to 3 you can macro like this to make marauders and marines: 3dd, TAB, aa.
Of course you can shift queue pretty much ANY actions and one thing that was a little annoying before is now much easier: unsieging and resieging tanks. Just unsiege, shift right click, shift+siege.
One thing I’m not too thrilled about is no noise when you stim.
Ya, I always loved the “AH YEAH” when Marines stimmed.
