Yup, they are, though they’re fairly balanced with T overall, they have a slight edge. P beats Z, Z beats T, and T beats P it seems (6-4 or so depending on the map). But since theres so many Ts, especially since the GSL qualifiers happened pre patch, Z gets to steamroll through the GSL. Thats why they have 50% representation in the round of 16 right now.
They’re not overpowered really, they just got bumped up to Ts power level and Z players are better at controlling their units now. P, on the other hand, dominates lower level but really seems to have a hard time at the higher levels, T can beat them before they really get Templars up and its gg. Once templars come out P has a fighting chance, it comes down to micro

yup, the way PvT balance looks right now, T wins in the early game with various timing pushes involving mainly bio ball, with optional supplements such as thors, tanks, or medivacs, whereas P wins in the late game with a gabazillion warpgates warping in templar and chargelots.
probably not the best way to balance a match
i just started playing sc. I suck obivously…man i don’t understand how people get their builds up so fast. I feel like im following the builds to a t. but then ill get to a guys base and he’ll have like 4 times what i do!
also i like huskys comentating the best out of the ones ive listened to
It’s kinda hard to say one race is better than another when SC2 is still pretty much in its infancy. Build orders and mechanics are constantly still being worked on. The game/metagame will be constantly switching because of this. Don’t forget that most of the maps that are being used now are somewhat small when comparing to some of the Brood War maps. Maps alone can change the metagame a great deal. I think the biggest concern right now is actually the ability to look at the match history and instantly learn/take builds from others.
Noob time. What does BM stand for? Personally, I don’t believe Z are the best/worst. It just so happened that Blizzard made some key changes in the last patch and Terrans/Protoss had to re-adjust the way they play Z. And as a result of that strategy shift, now Z has to figure out how to counter the new strategies.
Yeah, I haven’t followed Idra’s comments/trashtalking, but I know he is vilified on the forums. Still though, I wonder if he has ever done something SO RUDE in the game booth as Zenio did. I really could care less what people do outside of the game stage, but I would hate it if I saw anyone else did what Zenio did. It sets a bad precedent. If this happens again, it should result in some form of penalty.
all this because Blizz upped the Roach’s range? Its hard to believe but if theres some other factor i would like to know.
Its a mix of changes…T used to have a few different strong openings against Z which gave them a really hard time and put Z very behind in the game. Now with supply before barracks, reaper speed needing factory and roaches getting 4 range it makes Z very strong early game against T now.

the roach range increase is huge - it indirectly increases dps, because it means more units are firing at the same time. its also a lot harder to kite roaches now.
also as mentioned above, medivac nerf, reaper nerf, and proxy barrack nerf.
This just mainly eliminated a lot of Terran cheese against zerg…
It means T has a very hard time putting enough opening pressure onto zerg to stop the fast expand, which in turn lets Z stay ahead the rest of the game. It’s not impossible though; we saw FakeBoxer punish FruitDealer for his fast expand really well. But you can’t go quick reapers and own up the early zerg, you can’t got hellions and roast drones as easily (can’t kite roaches anymore), and with the increase roach range they really can work wonders in bigger numbers instead of just getting stuck behind eachother. The T nerf to medivac plus the nerf of siege tanks to light units (zerglings) really gives Z the edge over T now.
Thats why balance in a game like this is so hard, such slight changes make a big differences
You can also build an engy bay at their expansion…?
Yeah, that delays the expansion but doesn’t really punish zerg at all, I mean you’ve always been able to build there to delay them but just recently people went for engineering bays because it has so many hitpoints. If you delay them (and Im not sure you can get an engineering bay down before somebody goes hatch first, can you?) thats good, but not really in the way that the marine/scv rush really messes with zergs day
I just want to say, I have officially graduated from the ranks of the unwashed masses (Bronze) to the ranks of the really terrible but slightly less stinky masses (Silver) in a little under 200 1v1 games after 50 of which I realized I sucked as T and switched to Protoss. I still get pwned in the mid to mid late game but I’m getting slowly better.
Now that I’ve made that completely useless announcement we can all go back to admiring the awesome play in the GSL… thank you.
From what ive heard Z really didnt have anything to stop reaper rush’s and bunker rush’s. So meaning no fast expo for Z. Blizzard wanted a way to make Z get fast expos I guess
ugh TvT. Cool builds are cool but viking tanks are just so good
So does good sentry play give anyone else an erection?
I hate TvT. I have like a 100% loss rate for that matchup in the past 2-3 months I’ve been playing. I think part of the issue is that the matchup has this really delicate balance; stimmed M&M is relatively good early game, but relying on that too long can result in being contained or getting outzoned with tanks.
Then you have tank/viking which is pretty much the staple of the matchup, except relying too much on ground or too much on air can make you extremely vulnerable; a ground heavy army can be quickly forced out of position by a few cloaked banshees or better positioned tanks with viking sight, and an air heavy army just gets steamrolled by a large ground force.
Then you have crazy random stuff you have to watch out for, like reapers and cloaked banshees, and drops and nukes. Seriously, TvT is such a crazy, weird-feeling matchup. I feel like I can get by on TvZ/P games with decent macro and harass. But with TvT, you need to rely much more on positioning and scouting than anything else.
Just had an epic comeback tvz game where I thought I was doing good then I realize my micro early game was horrible and the zerg was pretty rubbish as well. It felt good though!

So I’ve really gotta get better at this game. I’ve spent way too much time theory crafting and watching replays. My actual play has slipped a LOT as demonstrated by all the Ts that basically auto-win against me as soon as they get igniter hellions. Anyone willing to trash me a few times to help me get back up to speed?
