I hope the semi and grand finals are B05. Would love to see more strategy mindgames coming from the top players than just them beating their opponents due to superior mechanics.

Match 3: Hey look, I’m terran. I’m going to attack protoss. Oh wow, protoss managed to hold it off amazingly. Whats that, I can’t scout his base, that’s ok I have a scan. scan Oh look Dark Shrine, that means he can’t attack me AND it will be 8 minutes more before it finishes building and I have to worry about DTs. Let me just build a turret at my choke and place my army there. Ok I’m good. Whats that, Protoss took the gold expansion to get ahead of my 1 base? Thats alright, I’ll just mule to keep up. Oh shit, is Protoss coming in my back door with DTs? thats alright I already have my turrets up. I’m good. Let me just 2 stargate Banshee/Raven since he already invested in the crappy DT tech. Oh whats that, I spot his gold base? Let me kill it. I win. Oh wait… what? He hid a stargate and came down with void rays? He took out my entire expansion of workers AND microd to hold off my attack at the same time? what a baller. It’s all good though, I’ll just lift and fly away from his 19 worker kill voidray. Let me fly it over here and land at my natural. Hmm, whats that, his WHOLE army is there? Well let me just bring my banshees and stimmed mauraders and press him back. Whew I repaired my CC back up, let me land and… drop 4 mules. Haha like killing my workers actually did anything. Let me just 1a my remaining mauraders and marines and win this while I check my ebay auctions.

The entire fucking point is that you shouldn’t need to be a pro level player just to be able to win with Zerg. Nobody is saying it is impossible to win. Everyone is saying is that it is very HARD. Which is absolutely true.

i am aware that there’s an imbalance, but the point i was making is that i think there’s too much qq over it. i’m pretty sure blizzard is aware of how zerg players feel by now.

you definitely don’t have to be a pro to win with z. just on srk, i have been stomped by thatguy, natureboy, and cheesecake.

There was no way Tester was gonna come back from that game. After the battle near the bottom of Tester’s natural he overextended his army and got his two immortals killed and didnt reinforce fast enough that Rainbow pushed up into his natural. From there Rainbow just kept reinforcing faster than Tester could with his gateways and 1 robo and he had to give up the natural. Although Artosis said there wasnt an observer out but infact there was and Tester could clearly see how big the army was plus could see that Rainbow got a Ghost out and EMP = no FFs or GS and shields on immortals.

Man, my hate for terran grows each day. It’s probably unfounded, but man it’s sad to see how good T is, and then blizzard keeps stealth buffing them (Point Defense Drone is now a building so you can’t feedback it, +Zealot build time but not maurader or marine means easy to rush P now), stealth nerfing Z (ultralisks now back to being bad, their damage is still nerfed + their splash range now sucks = Thors win). They don’t want to do anything drastic but then they come along and do these quick bug fixes that change things really importantly that they don’t realize the effect it will have.

I can’t stand TvT so the fact that theres going to be a TvT in the final 4 and then most likely another TvT in the finals makes me a sad panda.

I’m so rooting for Cool to somehow win this thing; but I think with the ultra change T can just go thor/viking and win too easily. We’ll see

What annoys me almost as much as how much T dominates at the pro level is how players not living up to the potential of their own race feel qualified to really make balance changes. I mean at the level most of us play at, the balance isn’t really as bad. I don’t feel that T really gets the huge advantage until the pro level, when they can micro 2 drops and a frontal attack and the defender needs 200+ more APM just to keep up. Not only that but Mules are way overly strong and terran tech buildings are too cheap; they regularly build a factory just to use as a scout because it’s cheaper than wasting a scan and losing out on a mule; that just screams to me that there needs to be an adjustment. Maybe 100 energy for Mules and leave scan and supply drop at 50? Increase cost of the factory or lower its HP so it’s not a virtually indestructible scout? Just thinking out loud here because I really don’t know the best answer, but Mules really are too good right now IMO.

Okay did they REALLY have to go and nerf the Ultralisk AGAIN after this? Couldn’t they have just changed the rules for when ultras attack buildings and modified the splash to just be contained to where their claws or…or something similar? I understand they shouldn’t get that stupid mega range for hitting buildings, but now they’ve made the Thor/Ultra match up even more favorable for the Thor? I just don’t get it…

I’m okay with mineral boosting being gone though.

@supreme jd: You don’t have to be a pro to win with z this is true. I will say though that almost every player that I’ve seen that started on Z jumped up leagues immediately after race switching. It might not be SUPER imbalanced but it’s very noticeable at times. I think this gets paired with the fact that a lot of our build orders don’t change much anymore except in the face of aberrant play. If I go against T the best course is muta/ling. If I go against P the best course is muta/ling. It’s only when I play the mirror match or go against really bizarre strats that I don’t do this now because it’s simply one of the FEW things that Z can still really excel in – map control.

I also think that this should be voiced to an extent. The balance issues that are prevalent right now are extremely stressful because of their very nature. I know my stomach churned a little when I started playing as Toss in the release version of the game and started to pick up a W/L record against some of my friends that was very close to my Zerg W/L record. By now my Toss is getting a slightly better W/L record even though I’ve put NO thought into them like I have Zerg. I know several Zerg build orders, responses, habits, etc. and all I can do with Toss is either 4 gate or 3 gate robo and expand at some point. After that I just throw down more buildings and keep running into my opponent. When I compare that to what it took me to learn Zerg all I can do is balk.

It’s hard not to voice that sometimes. Even if all it is is QQ.

Wtf did they do to Ultras now? :confused:

They nerfed the overall splash radius of the tusk swinging animation. Before Ultralisks could stand up to Thors because their blades would hit the thors and splash damage would make it so multiple thors were hit. If you read the article and look at the situations of Thors vs Ultras now that supremejd linked to they show how drastically that affects the match up.

What is so infuriating about this is that it’s only an issue because of how they changed the Ultra in the first place. The fact that the Ultra was hitting the scvs all around the PFortress wasn’t a bug it was just applying that same attack effect to something the size of a building. Before it wasn’t an issue because the Ultra just used their ram attack which has no aoe. Since they removed the ram attack and saw this unintended consequence in motion after having already nerfed the Ultra by 5 damage they go ahead and nerf the actual benefit to its unique attack in the first place. It would’ve been better to simply make it so that the AoE worked differently when hitting a structure. Like maybe make it so only units next to the ultra also take damage…you know, the sensible approach.

Edit: The specific change I should mention is that before the splash worked as if the ultra was making whatever unit it was hitting the center of a blast. From the center of that unit there was then a 2 range area all around it where any friendly units would take the same damage. This is what makes ultralisks fierce against groups of units in the first place. Now what happens is it only does 2 range from the front of the unit the ultralisk is attacking. This results in ultralisks doing hardly any splash damage to thors, drastically changing the match up. It also has a somewhat noticeable effect on siege tanks. It also affects mixed compositions because if you were able to get your Ultralisks in against the Thors with marines behind those Thors then the rines would take splash damage as well. It really is one of the key things that makes Ultralisks a ‘tier 3’ unit, and at the end of the day they ultimately decided to fix a ‘bug’ with a flat out nerf.
