[details=Spoiler]She was probably trained in the force too, but mind wiped or too scarred to recall.
Ben Solo was lured to the dark side before learning much of anything with the Force. He can do a few tricks with a lightsaber and learned a bit of the force, but was then lured by Snoke, with promises of power. Snoke probably just trained him to use his anger and fear of others to empower himself. He’s been like the only Jedi for awhile now, since Luke left, and never faced anybody else with powers. Even the end of the movie, Snoke’s like 'bring him to me so I can train his ass."
If you think of it like martial arts, he’s probably a blue belt and she’s a green belt.
Also, good luck using the force to deflect a bowcaster shot with a working lightsaber, let alone Ben’s wonky overheating mess. I’m fairly certain that the type of ammo the Bowcaster uses and the way it fires it (it basically fires explosives wrapped in energy, instead of bolts of light like a blaster), flatout prevents it from being deflected.
Also Ben had just killed his father, and may have been a little pre-occupied.[/details]
Clone army is still out there. They mention whether they should bring them in instead of the FO’s troop’s. So yeah, Boba/Jango Fett lives on.

[details=Spoiler]I mean they made an effort throughout the entire movie to let the audience know “Hey, Chewie’s bowcaster is THE SHIT.” It was blowing away stormtroopers left and right, and Ren was hit in the abdomen by the fucking thing. Needless to say, he was probably in a lot of pain bleeding all over the place.
It didn’t help that Rey kept hitting him in that exact place.[/details]

I liked, granted I never got to see the originals at the time of their release (did see them in the theaters for the special editions,) but it is the most visually appealing Star Wars film I have seen. Some problems with the story and how it progressed but it is very faithful to the tone and legacy of the films before it while starting a new path.
It does make the wait now for Episode VIII a bit more harder but hey a very good film can’t hate that.

Wait JJ is not directing the next flims?
Lol at some of this bullshit
[details=Spoiler]dur Ren was shot in the ribs.
He’s powerful enough in the force to stop light and read minds, low tier force skills include keeping your body going in a fight.
Also still massively short of explaining why he was getting beat on so easily.[/details]

Pffft, as if a little something like AGE is gonna hold back the greatest bounty hunter ever.
I am actually a little worried about this. I don’t understand why they would go through different directors. Hell, I didn’t even like Jurassic World, I thought it was a fucking sloppy movie, riddled with plotholes, and now he’s doing a Star Wars movie.
[details=Spoiler]He was bleeding to death from a near fatal wound. He was able to use low level tricks. Sure, stopping a laser beam was pretty badass, but who knows how high that ranks on force abilities. Dude sure wasn’t throwing force lightning. Mind reading was probably an easy ass trick. Vader was just casually doing that to Luke in RotJ.
He was man handling Finn when they fought. He toyed with him until Finn got a lucky poke in, then he disarmed him and putt his ass in a coma while carving his initials on his back. Then when he fights Rey, he is fighting somebody with hand to hand and weapon combat training (as evident by how well she takes on dudes earlier, and her use with the stick). She uses her anger a lot too. Even then, it’s a pretty interesting match. She actually knows what she is doing, and Kylo is coming off of getting shot in a vital organ by a bazooka, while under the mental strain from having just killed his father. Then she lets the Force in, and proceeds to tap dance around a wounded individual.
And that’s not even counting the fact she seems to have obviously had a bit of training in the Force that we haven’t been told about, that she may be blocking out (or have blocked out for her). [/details]

Kylo Ren aka. Ben Solo is still a novice to the dark side of the force, people need to stop thinking his Darth Vader right out of the gate.
You have two other movies for his development into the dark side.

Agreed. Dude is still conflicted about his choice to go to the dark side, and feels pulls from the Light.

I swear some people want to shit on this movie/talk bad about it just for the sake of it…
Out go the spoiler tags. . . . . . in the words of G1 Megatron from the 86’ Movie -
THEIR DEFENSES ARE BROKEN, LET THE SLAUGHTER BEGIN!
Rian Johnson (director of Looper and Brick) is the director for the next movie . Colin Trevarrow is doing ep 9
Examples 5 and 6 - The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi for the examples here.
Both were sequels carried off from an original treatment by a great visionary and each movie is tonally different from the other. You don’t feel like you are watching the same movie as the first when you look at them back to back.

Fair enough. I guess the core story is all that really matters, and they’re gonna handle every aspect of it, like the Marvel movies.
I’m still worried about Coin Trevarrow though. He could end up being another Josh Trank.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not really optimistic about that choice. He basically remade Jurassic Park with minor adjustments (which can also be said about this movie in some respects).
Then again, who would have thought that the guys who directed U, Me and Dupree would go on to make one of the best MCU movies.

Just come back from watching the film… it was great! a worthy successor to the original films. Dammit now i want a BB droid… that thumbs up tho lol
Wow the tags going so early lol?
kylo being beat by ren is a non issue.
the established cannon is that if you let the force flow through you, it will defeat an aggressive opponent. It’s the only reason why obi wan kenobi won against grevious, who shitted on sevearl jedi knights who sat at the round table.

or how Luke was able to shoot a 2 meter hole with a torpedo, without aiming tools, while moving 650mph in a spaceship, with a couple hours of training on how to deflect lasers with sword.
So what EU (Disney EU) stuff is critical regarding this movie?
Who are the First Order, where did they come from and how did they get so big so fast.
What’s the story with the New Republic post Return and why are the “resistance” back to being guerrilla fighters?
Anything regarding the Rens would be nice as well.
Basically, what should I be reading to make sense of the movie?
