She’s introduced as a no-nonsense badass in this movie, but even with the very few character beats she gets, it shows something interesting… If they didn’t just write that part lazily.

It’s interesting that she so readily takes down the shield to the Starkiller base when she’s captured. It shows that she either 1) values her own life over the new Empire-wannabes’ victory, and/or 2) she believes enough in the organization’s strength that the shields shouldn’t matter.

Or it’s just lazy writing. We shall see in ep. 8.[/details]

Thoughts on Poe

“The rebellions greatest pilot” is what he is referred to as. Traditionally, the best pilots in the galaxy are always force sensitive. Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Kanan. But we also see strong pilots who aren’t (as far as we know), like Hera, Han, etc. The whole situation with him is a bit weird, he managed to survive the tie crash and escape without issue? I think theres more to this guy that was let on. I was half expecting him to be some clone or something, but he recognized Finn so that doesn’t seem likely. I definitely feel like theres more to that guy.

Thoughts on Rey

As much as they are trying to buck the trend of her being a stereotypical female character, I hope her lightsaber crystal she eventually makes ends up Pink, yellow, or Purple. I don’t know why but I think that contrast would be interesting. And I want to see Pink or Yellow lightsabers end up on store shelves.

Also, as much as I enjoyed it… Im not really feeling like I need to rush back and see it again. I dont know if thats a reflection of the movie or of me

Rogue Squadron was from the old school days. That was the name of the squadron Luke flew with, especially during the Battle of Hoth. They may still be around, but that wasn’t them.

Something is up with him, that’s for sure. It’s kinda bad writing that neither of them saw each other in the middle of a giant desert near a crash they were both involved in. Or that Poe left the planet without BB-8. Dunno if he is force sensitive, but I wouldn’t put it past them. I get the feeling they introduced us to several potential Jedi already.

There are pics of the two Lightsabers from the movie, and a homemade lightsaber that was literally 2 crystals, held together with sticks and vines. I mentioned earlier, Lightsabers are possibly incredibly rare in the current Star Wars universe, Kylo and Rey/Luke may have the only two.

Phasma was setup similar to Boba Fett. Shown off early (a la Empire), but being saved for a future movie. Let’s just hope they don’t use her in an Ewok Christmas special…
