It’s moreso the fan response than the movie itself to be honest.
Nobody killed themselves over Episode 1.
TLJ killed the franchise.
Star Wars is literally doing its last, ironic iconic hand sign of Live Long and Prosper against nuked glass.
Jake Lloyd IIRC.
Raped you mean?
There may be a decent amount of vocal outcry of the against the movie, but it definitely is not a franchise killer. We’ll be back in Oct with reports of how ticket sales are going for this movie and it’ll do gangbusters. Couple that with the content Disney has coming with the streaming service this is just a proverbial bump in the road. There is enough support for the franchise even without those that are in outright disgust that it will continue to do well.
If it is not a franchise killer, it is in the same vein as Trump being a duly elected president.
Irony, thy name is Standard.
America has no metric for “bad”.
We can agree to disagree. Trump’s by far worse
Of course he is.
He is real-life fiction.
Reports of ticket sales mean nothing. Actual ticket sales matter. Solo was reportedly selling double the tickets of Black Panther. Then it came out and flopped.
Oh yeah, thanks. I changed it.
I agree, but we all know that Episode IX will do just fine. Reports will start in Oct., and it’ll just continue the bank roll through release. How many people that “hate” TLJ are actually going to sit this last one out and I mean truly abstain?
It took 3 Michael Bay Transformer movies after Revenge of the Fallen to finally see a downturn. Even back then, there were those shouting that they never would see one of those movies again. Star Wars has a much greater reach than the TF franchise.
Now will it make TFA money, of course not.
I’m in the camp that liked most of what TLJ did and I could see where someone wouldn’t like it, but definitely don’t think it’s a franchise killer.
I also believe that Rian Johnson would have been better suited directing a Star Wars movie that wasn’t related to the primary anthology.
The Bayformer movies were carried by China. They started tanking in the US well before they finally bottomed out worldwide. IX will make money. I don’t think it’ll crack a billion though. Star Wars doesn’t do well in China. They don’t have an emerging market to cover domestic dissatisfaction like the Bayformers franchise.
Dark of the Moon was more sequel fatigue. AOE and TLK were primarily carried by China (especially AOE).
900 Million it is
Ultimately, I just want the next movie to do two things:
- Be good
- Not be ROTJ V2.3
Haven’t seen any of the bayformers movie past the first one.
Next star wars is going to do fairly well. Not sure what the loudest part of the Star Wars fanbase is going to do with themselves though. You can either deal with the new canon or i guess keep caking on patreon out of being mad at Rian Johnson.
Agreed.
Sidenote, check out Bumblebee. It’s basically a retread of the 2007 movie but done right.
Based one merchandizing, they are not buying anything. Lucasfilm hasn’t helped by antagonizing the fanbase. Attacking your customers is bad business. Even you hate them, it is common sense to pretend to care about them.
The silent majority of those who are extremely disappointed, as well as those who have mildly voice their dissent, like me, are simply going to cease giving a fuck, and move on.
It’s dead, like Jim.
Bringing it back like a vain tribble pursuit, ain’t an accomplishment.
It’s writing yourself in the corner beside MK Armageddon.
It’s way too early to tell if it’s dead. Given the moves Disney is making in terms of both media and theme park development, they still see it as viable. However, there is something to be said about the clear attempt at an overall course correction.
Looks like the ramp up is starting:
