Star Wars

You forgot something Pertho. What did she do to help the rebels escape? She jumped in a cock pit and blew shit up.

Not there yet. Forgot a bunch of other stuff because I figured people didn’t want to read it.

:joy: :joy: :joy:

Canto Blight is okay. It doesn’t do much for the story but helps flesh out a lot of stuff involving the SW universe. Not sure if there was a better way of showing the First Order being responsible for actually awful things all the while discussing the economies of war. Think what may have been going through Rian’s mind was ā€œwell I gotta do something that kind of explains how the FO got some power. What if we show that some people purposefully helped them because they just wanted to profiteer?ā€

Technically that level of selfishness is as dark side of the force as it gets. But like I said when this first came out, a lot of the issues in TLJ are execution. Not sure if this was the right approach to kind of give the people who love world building a bone.

To me, this is the biggest thing wrong with TLJ. I hated Holdo’s character.

I don’t know if its the biggest, but its one of the balls they dropped. Not letting Rey be vulnerable more often feels like a bigger issue. This may be where the SJWishness may have come into play. Don’t think they really wanted Rey to have some moment of weakness or anything.

think her having erratic strenght she couldn’t control in TLJ would’ve been perfect for her character. The struggle is this internal force that just causes her distress.

Everything involving Rey teaching Luke anything is just terrible. ā€œDon’t you see Luke, you never really understood a damn thing about the Force all these years becuase you’ve been jerking off with a fleshlight hand!ā€

Think these are the moments where she goes Mary Sue because she turns into a self inserted character that is magically better than the people around her and has all the answers. These interactions were a disservice to the actors, the story and the franchise.

ā€œYou have bet the survival of the resistence on bad odds and put us all at risk?ā€

No, not really. Dude knew nothing about what was going on. His friends gave him an idea that, at this point, is better than anything actually going on. Feels a little bit better than the one that actually happened. Matter of fact, it may have succeeded if more people had been in on it.

Holdo is a terrible character.

All these YT reviewers saying that they’ll skip out on IX clearly don’t want that subscriber revenue LOL.

Uh… Why the heck are you watching something you hate so much? You guys spend more time on here hating on this movie, and shitting all over me for liking it. Then you go and waste another 2.5 hours of your life re-watching it? And I’m the one who’s crazy here? LMFAO.

Yeah actually. I’m rewatching it because I’ve heard both sides of the issue and I wanted to rewatch based on all the discussion I’ve had.

Same reason I’ve read certain books more than once even though I didn’t like them the first time. Wtf?

Yeah, does anyone think Star Wars Resistance will have a chance?

Now that I know more about the premise I am having my doubts they will be able to right the ship before it probably gets canceled after an improved but still flawed second season. It has got to get at least two.

I was going to post this in the movie thread. This was a well timed piece. I also share his hatred for CinemaSins. It was cool when they were 5-10 minutes long. Now they are just asinine.

I’ve never liked Cinema Sins. Always came off as douchy. Heated and weird as it may be, there has been a better diacussion on why a lot of things in TLJ here than in most of the videos related to TLJ I’ve watched.

Havent really found a good video defending the movie for what it did though. Almost all defenses of it seem to be of the ā€œWell I liked it so who caresā€. Either way so much of TLJ is just botched execution/bad writing. There are just so many small to medium things that ask you to stretch your suspencion that it falls apart under lightest of scrutiny.

There are a few that make some legit points. I believe I have posted some of them. It’s moreso the question if it hits your sensibilities. For about half the fan base they went in with a set of expectations and got either what they wanted or what they didn’t. I have to find it, but there was a video that actually called out why we can’t agree on art and used TLJ as it’s point. I don’t mind at all people that discuss their dislike for the movie, but in most cases it’s unsupported or egregious. If TLJ is the worst movie you ever saw, then frankly you haven’t heard of Uwe Boll, Lifetime, or SyFy

It isn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Uwe Boll movies aren’t even that bad either (at least not like the actual trash I’ve watched for fun). But TLJ asks you to set aside your brain too much even by Star Wars standards.

The chase storyline is kind of a perfect example of that. After Kylo and his two co-tie fighters blow up the bridge, there is literally no reason not to speed up a little bit and just obliterate the shit out of the main ship.

So it isn’t that Poe played telephone with Hux, or that Holdo is literally the shittiest leader in the SW universe, or that Rey had to translate Chewbacca to Luke or teach him about the force, or that Finn and Rose were able to leave at lightspeed without anybody noticing and come back on top of the Millennium Falcon also doing it, is that all of it happened. At some point it just starts become some really wacky fan fic. Some of the ideas had a lot of potential but it turned out kinda bad.

And does ideas weren’t without merit either. Grumpy solitary Luke (Lucas’ idea btw, just not the story that got him there) works out kind of alright. DJ betraying Finn and Rose was great. Poe doing the right thing 24/7 and getting scolded for it is…kind of hilariously silly actually (problem with how that storyline unfolds itself is a a billion paragraphs by itself). Finn’s arc suffers a similar problem. Rose is probably the character that makes the least sense.

One thing that is disappointingly humorous is how much people have complained about the SJWiishness of the new trilogy and how bad the female characters are. For all of the ā€œThe Force is Femaleā€ propaganda Kennedy put out, save for the alien that runs the bar in TFA (forgot her name), all of the females characters are absolute shit.

Leia became super corny. Rey went from this cool chick with a lot of potential to this hilariously Mary Sue character flatter than a board. Holdo is a bitchy mess. Somewhere inbetween all of her line Rose exists as a good character; unfortunately taking all of her lines she is a kind of schizo mess of a personality. Phasma…Holy shit Phasma. I was so hype to have a Empire version of Boba Fett (in terms of cool factor) that would go around kicking ass. They literally put her in the series to just get fucking bodied for no reason.

It is insanely unfortunate too. I’d love to be able to pop these movies and have my daughter look at a bunch of cool female characters that get cooler as she ages. Instead she’ll get older and they’ll all become hilariously shitty. At least there’s Vazquez in Aliens 2. Vazquez forever the baddest.

Edit: Since I like following the SW fandom post TLJ, I’ll copy/paste a pretty hilarious comment I found in a thread somewhere out there in the galaxy:

ā€œThe most hilarious thing is that Snoke didn’t know that he had a revolutionary, experimental hyperspace tracking device on his own ship.ā€

That kind of sums up TLJ in a nutshell.

Edit #2: This was also a really good take on one of the things that happened:

ā€œPersonally, Luke not going to Crait was something I kind of enjoyed because he essentially solved the problem in the most Jedi way possible. Victory was not in fighting Kylo and losing, victory was fighting Kylo and then taking that chance at vengeance away from him. When he says ā€œStrike me down in anger and I’ll always be with you.ā€ He meant it. Kylo will forever remember the moment that Luke essentially humiliated him in front of his entire army. I also imagine that to Kylo, killing Luke was how he was going to prove to himself that he is actually ready to be the new Vader and now he’ll just remember failing to do so and being tricked by an illusion. Remember that Luke’s goal isn’t to kill Kylo at this point, otherwise he probably would’ve just gone there himself.ā€

Damn!!! We need some Mara Jade in the movies!!!

It’s crazy how this thread is still filled with Last Jedi hate. It’s been 9 months already. We should be on how bad of a bomb Solo is.

Solo wasn’t a ā€œflopā€ in the traditional sense. It had mediocre to par financial performance. The most visible thing is it didn’t come close to any of the other Star Wars movies. It’ll earn some of the value back with streaming and home video sales.

I enjoyed Solo for what it was. However, I still felt that the movie was unnecessary. At least it’s got a bad ass Steelbook coming.
