According to wikipedia, 800 million is just breaking even, so I’m thinking 2 billion is what it has to make to be considered a success. And apparently in China, a major market, early figures aren’t looking all that hot.
Naw man I copped a good online stream, I’d sooner pay for a porn movie than trust these hollywood scumbags with my wallet. Fuck hype I can wait.
Like I just finished catching up on 800 posts in this thread and agree with a lot of shit from all perspectives but I don’t love/hate the movie, just straight up 5/10 this shit for the visuals but the story moving forward is just fucking done lol. They’re ain’t no comebacks for this. Maybe after a second viewing I will learn to hate this movie but right now and still numb and very meh.
Then you start thinking about more and more shit that doesn’t make sense and you’re just left scratching your head about how anyone with insider access thought this film’s plot was okay…
The big difference is, unlike TLJ, both NES Classics were money well-spent and RESPECTFUL to the original product they’re based on. They also delivered on what it promised (actually, better than what they promised. Thanks to the glorious hacks).
Nintendo literally released a console in 2016 with 30 games from an era where the maximum storage size was 1MB. You could have done a Rasberry Pi for about tree-fiddy and come off a whole lot better, but as long as you like it, you win!
TLJ isn’t the Citizen Kane of Star Wars nor is it a dumpster fire using 'member berries as kindle. I liked what it was trying to do, and overall enjoyed the movie. I wish that this movie wasn’t limited by what came before it. Ending TFA on a cliffhanger with dangling plot threads that weren’t considered as part of the story being told is the crucial flaw with this trilogy.
Honestly, I still hope Lucasfilm grants Johnson that separate trilogy.
You paid $120 for a Rom box shaped like a NES, then did it again for the European version. You lost all rights to say what is and isn’t a waste of money.
Yes. I did. And both NES Classics were a better use of the money than a ticket to that shitty movie lol.
And i’d do it again. This time for the SNES Classic. Which i never got by the way (too many distractions). However, if presented with the opportunity? I’d gladly buy 2 New SNES classics for Double-retail each…than (1) copy of that shitty Star Wars movie at normal price.
There are so many fun things i can do with those SNES Classics and neat hacks to employ. What the hell am i going to do with a Blu-Ray of The Last Jedi? Besides buyers remorse and being pissed off after i watch it.
I’m buying The Last Jedi on blu-ray day one. In fact, I might as well go ahead and pre-order the sleel book from Best Buy right now. Thanks for reminding me!
Watching this… Then watching the Finn/Rey vs Kylo fight in Ep7 really made me realize that ep1-3 did fight scenes well. Great music combined with action.
The music from the final fight in ep6 is still my favourite, haunting almost.
Ep7 was hella underwhelming compared to those.
Ep8 needed a better score during their big fight, it would have captivated me more.
Return of the Jedi still feels like the proper end of the franchise because everything that led up to it this point had so much emotional weight. The lightsaber in the OT was a literary device. It told a story through each movement. The character’s emotions are conveyed in each scene, the lightsaber just does the talking.
ANH - Old Master facing off with obvious impossible odds
ESB - Inexperienced hero gets a taste of true power as an adversary; gets toyed with and reminded that he was far from ready, and then beaten senseless. The camera work with Vader approaching the screen putting Luke on the defensive may be one of the greatest Villain powering over the hero moments in film.
ROTJ - A more mature hero faces against his greatest adversary knowing that it’s his father. That fight has consequences both to the hero and the galaxy. The dialogue leading up to his Jedi fury and the outcome gives me chills.
Then you have the prequels. Including the big battle in TPM (which is great to look at), they just feel like dance numbers that we just want to see as fans (except maybe ping-pong ball Yoda).
and now we have the new movies. To be honest, I liked Finn vs Kylo 10x better than Rey and Kylo. Finn and Kylo’s fight just felt more authentic, even though my man got beaten. Rey is for the most part on the defensive and then just . . . . wins.
TLJ was a cool sequence, but felt like how many cool ways can we use a lightsaber in ways that you haven’t seen it done before instead of a battle.
