Palpatine coming back was a huge mistake. The whole thing felt rushed and desperate. I really wanted Kylo to become completely and irreversibly corrupted by the Dark side of The Force. He should have killed Leia in the third movie.
Yeah the objective issues with the Sequel Trilogy simply come down to poor leadership. The lack of a clear plan for the trilogy. Being the biggest example. There have been repeated incidents of poor leader ship since Kennedy has been in charge. A lot of which were always there but got brushed aside because of the box office numbers. Sheâs repeatedly clashed with or replaced the directors she hired. And it is a situation that hasnât improved. The Obi Wan series being the latest examples. She came out and saying how great the scripts were. Then they fire the write after heâs written all the scripts just before filming starts. Solo was literally filmed twice. She let Lord & Miller film almost he entire movie, fired them, and then hired Ron Howard to refilm the movie. Even with is disappointing box office returns, Solo would have made money if the film didnât have double the budget. She did something similar with Rogue One, except Edwards would fired, they brought in another director reshoot and then edit the film. When look at projects like The Mandalorian and Clone Wars Season 7, which have gotten praise from fans and critics, she had virtually no involvement in them. Itâs not a good sign the best handled projects are the ones that donât have the any input of for the leader of Lucasfilm.
It sort of reminds me of the situation at Bioware. The leadership issues that came to light with Andromeda and then Anthem had been there for years. They were there for Inquisition, and i know some didnât like that game, but it was overall well received. More importantly, it was very well made. Character models, voice work, animation, etc. Despite being their first game on Frostbite and it was easily the best. And Inquisition is a massive game. Although they were shaky versions, they actually got the game to run on PS3 and 360. It wasnât until Andromeda and Anthem tanked that it became known that Biowareâs standard practice was to squander 3 to 4 years of development time with nonsense only to have to crunch for 18 months to get their games done. Inquisition, Andromeda, and Anthem all had 5 to 6 years of development time. Yet they were truly made in a year and a half.
Sorry about slightly off topic gaming paragraph but the two situations really seem to mirror each other to me.
Agreed. I am in the same camp. Looking at eps 8 and (alt universe) 9, it seemed like RJ and Trevorrow shared some notes with one another and tried to create a unique story. 7 to me was an expectation meltdown. I still feel that 8 would have been fine if that was the starting point and delved more into the psyche of Luke leaving the Jedi Order as a thing. We have a character that fell out of faith with the Order, so it can obviously be done.
. . . . but colors .
I donât think anyone could disagree with this.
Despite overall enjoying the movies. I saw this the other day and I am in agreement.
Eh?
Think about it, totally a bad idea, but that whole scene was flash over substance. Itâs a thing JJ does to make the audience forget there is really nothing happening.
Well it was a huge failure for me cuz I wasnât 5 minutes into the movie before I was going âWait how did he not crash into something 3 fucking times? Where the fuck is 3PO to give me the odds? Wait how did the tie fighters keep up with him through 3 random jumps? How did they know when he was gonna jump and end the jump?â
I seriously had more questions in the first 5 minutes of Rise then all of the rest of Star Wars lmao. Really took me.out of the movie the moment it started. Like it didnât trick me into failing to notice nothing was happening. I saw a whole lot of shit happening and it made no fucking sense!!!
That scene was basically how the mechanics of the movieâs plot drove forward.
For the most part the rest of the movie was fine for me. I laughed at GlaDOS Palpatine but that was about it.
I even liked Ben Solo at the end. That sick no look shot like his old man Chef kiss
Not gonna lie, I loved the skipping scene, until I thought about it . I just loved it for what it is. Anytime the Falcon is on screen, I get giddy.
I can clearly tell after rewatching the entire saga for the past month plus TCX/Mando/Rebels again what feels like a Lucas affair vs a disney half baked cake of fail. Itâs that goofy feeling I had listening to the dialog, the push for more unique effects and well the consistency is the massive difference.
I will continue to be mad that yes Disney wanted THEIR own saga after the purchase to monetize and while they were semi successful, it comes at the cost of fracturing the fanbase which in the long term may shorten the profits and ailenate people.
I watched the making of Mando on disney plus and you can tell that Filoni gets it. the way he discusses things shows he knew the material, understood the creator and modeled things after what Lucas may have done but still made it his own. THAT was the difference.
FIloni et. al knew where they were going. Thatâs the takeaway with all of it. TFA to me is honestly where it all went wrong. While fun, itâs just a marketing exercise.
Yeah I went with objective issues in my prior post because no matter our opinions of the films, there are things going at Lucasfilm outside of the product itself that are unquestionably bad. Not looking at a products vision beforehand adds unneeded expense. I already mentioned Soloâs problems but look at Obi Wan. The show was set to film. They paid the writer for all the scripts. Hired crews for filming. Brought in all the actors and afterall that was done, they had to shutdown to start over. That is a lot unnecessary expense. How do you let a show get to that point?
I really hope so.
I know, but a good storyteller keep their audience wanting more. And loose ends means more episodes (If not a new show).
Ursa wouldnt wear a maul loyal helmet thoâŚ
I just watched the Mando documentary thing and man, Dave Filoni is the man we need but donât deserve. His whole insight on the duel of fates up until RotJ was fucking great. It legit made me want to watch Ep. 1-6 all over again.
Iâm very much a casual if not lesser than that when it comes to Star Wars but even I can understand how much this dude fucking gets it.
Give him the keys to the Death Star.
I got back on a Lego star wars kick again.
This isnât quite finished but close enough to show.
The unfinished part is basically the underside where the landing gear will go along with spring loaded shooters.
I present my 501st y wing tribute to the one Rex and Ahsoka escaped order 66 in.
When will some of these dumb executives who donât know their audiences or care about them besides the dollars they represent learn to STFU and stop rocking the boat.
I mean I know 80% of rich folk are rich due to fraud or connections familial or otherwise, so intelligence isnât a requirement to get to those positions but damn.
At this point, Lucasfilm is shooting themselves in the prosthetic foot that replaced the one they already shot off.
