Tachi Gigas is an important tool, but I don’t think I necessarily agree with you that it’s ESSENTIAL to learn to play Hugo at a high level. Because the opportunities to get a tachi don’t come around too often.
I mean, if you can consistently do Tachi and are confident enough to do it, especially in high pressure situations, then more power to you. It’s always a risk to do it though, cuz if you mess up your 1 chance to Tachi your opponent, it could be the difference as to whether or not you won the round or even the match depending on the situation.
Tachi is an important tool and you SHOULD learn it if you wanna play Hugo seriously, but again, I wouldn’t necessarily say essential.
I will say this though… If you even pull off 1 Tachi, especially in a tourney setting, that really puts a fear factor in your Hugo, and you can really take advantage of that if people know you’re capable of doing it. :bgrin:
I agree with you Trix, but I don’t think only Tachi has that effect. Getting hit with Gigas means you just lost way too much life, for a mistake you made. Whether that mistake was letting Hugo getting in too close, or doing a stupid move that got parried and then you know what comes after. Hugo looks like he was designed to be an intimidating character to begin with, and although he’s no Makoto, he can put fear into opponents even with basic mix ups.
I’m not saying the tachi gigas is useless, but instead of learning it, why don’t you concentrate on learning set-ups for other types of landing gigas breaker firdt? Blocked corner clap -> dash gigas is amazing.
Tachi only took me an hour or so to get down consistently. The question here is why NOT learn it? It’s really not that hard to do. I think the difficulty of Tachi Gigas is extremely misunderstood, just as Kara Demon. That one also took me around an hour. Now Kara Palm on the other hand, I’ve practiced for weeks and still can’t quite do it.
Point is, if you play any character, you are more or less obligated to learn to perform EVERYTHING they are capable of, or you’re not really playing at 100% and you’re just fooling yourself.
Yeah but when the time comes that you DO need it, you’re gonna think “Ahh why didn’t I put in the little amount of time it requires to learn it!”
As for the Kara Palm, they don’t do it because it’s probably the hardest move in the game. Mester is the only one you see trying to use it in matches, and even he screws it up. If they all had the ability to do kara palm at whim, and not mess up once, they would be doing it all the time, given that it’s one of the strongest combo’s in the game, period. Shit, Keeperjin is easier than that, and nowadays you see a lot of top Yun players doing that. Even HP Loop.
I mean thats good too but against a character that can do so much in short amount of time, hugo needs every tool he’s got imho.
Thats the thing though, the difficulty is there but the effort needs to be there as well. Which is the reason why nearly every character I have usually has one thing I don’t know how to do yet like keeper-jin’s, raging demon, tachi gigas etc. Learning this techniques is essential for clutch situations and making it count for that highlight real everyone talks about in video’s.
Kara Palm is the only trick that is left for me to actually master. I can do it, but I haven’t been able to do 6 palms in a row yet. Highest I got was probably 2 on Ryu.
