ST: sim / Honda

Geminite:

There is just some very slight differences between ST sim and the Sim of the CVS series. Some of the moves may look a bit different but have about the same properties. For example you can still use the crouch punches to go under fireballs and hit your opponent.

I don’t think the way to zone with Sim is radically different in ST than it is in the CVS games. However one thing I’d watch for is what pokes to use against whom and which ones you DON’T use. Don’t ever ever whiff a stand RH against Zangief for example. Good Giefs with any reflexes will punish you with a stand RH, and DHalsim takes damage like a baby. Just play against different characters and see which pokes work better and which ones don’t work so well.

The other thing worth learning is his various ticks into noogie or throw. ST Dhalsim has much more mobility with his three foot drills, spear and slides and you can use all these to tick into throws, or play some in-close mind games that can lead to a small combo or a knockdown.

On the Honda/Vega matchup: I don’t think this match is as close as some people make it out to be. It’s true that neither can really attack the other, but Vega has the harder time setting Honda up for that mistake that will break the turtle Honda. Walk up throws are out of the question, and even Vega’s attempts to cause chip damage can open himself to a counter if the Honda player is patient and knows what to watch for.

I don’t think Vega has an advantage with his longer pokes because Vega won’t be worrying about how to keep Honda out. In fact, Vega should be worrying about how to break Honda’s defence. Honda doesn’t even need do try to get in. If the Honda player tries to get in on Vega he’s lost the match already because he’s playing to Vega’s strengths. All Honda has to do is be ready to counter any walk-up throw attempts and watch for the point when Vega tries to chip, and counter appropriately. The only time Honda can get in on Vega is after a knockdown or a blocked butt drop, but he doesn’t even need to do that to win this match. IMO Honda has the advantage simply because Vega can’t break his defence without risking opening himself up to a counterattack.

While we’re talking about Honda, anybody got any interesting Ochio setups?

i only like kof98,fuck fei!

Geminite: I’ll take this with the approach of you going from CvS1 to ST, because that’s how I learned Dhalsim. I won’t bother with CvS2 Dhalsim because he’s nothing like how good he is in ST. As far as zoning, there’s one major different between CvS1 (normal mode) Dhalsim and ST Sim, more buttons. The forward kick button is too important. If I want a long range high poke, I use standing forward instead of roundhouse because it’s faster and a little safer if whiffed.

The other big difference between CvS1 and ST that I found was standing close strong. This upwards chop was reliable anti-air in CvS1, but not so in ST. Instead, standing close forward and standing close jab are two almost invincible anti-airs. The one character who gets in on me consistantly is Cammy, but that’s a different story altogether (stupid counter character). Blanka might can get in on that, not sure.

ST Dhalsim has more offensive options too. With the drills being faster than CvS1, and low short xx noogie being the tick of death, you can play some ghetto rushdown with Dhalsim. Sim’s not a rushdown character in general, but against Old Sagat and the Shotos it’s a great option to have.

Geminite: Try out O. Honda, you might be more comfortable with him cause his normals are pretty much the same as CvS2

let’s fuck fei
