ST report from my trip to Japan

Cool write up

So did you see Arg or Noguchi Play? was it YuuBal style? anything for us claw players>?

Did you read his post?

salut monsieur jones,

just wanted to say hi & well done from the german ST crowd, you did a fantastic job and we are proud of you

hope to see you soon on ggpo!

Nice report, hope you enjoyed your stay

Yes!, just wanted to know if thereā€™s more/indepth/specificā€¦

I didnā€™t see many claw players. I did see Noguchi play and didnā€™t learn anything new. He was doing wall dives whenever he got the chance, and he used the roll for poking quite often, which seemed very effective.

did you record any matches, either yours or between others?

I only recorded a few freeplay matches with my numeric camera, nothing extraordinary.

Thanks for the thread, dude. Sounds like it was reallllly cool!

nabiiil
happy you enjoyed japan that much :stuck_out_tongue:

Great read! Sounds like a really fun trip!

good read! Thanks for the info!

Iā€™m way late to the party, but nice post man. Always love hearing stories from the visits

yo jones. i bet your dic did good over there even tho theyā€™re japs? :o do you have any matchvids with you vs. some of them?? :smokin:

It is still possible to learn this game to the top level on ggpo currently. You can find myself and alot of very good japanese players on there, and the pings are very playable

I practice regularly on GGPO and iā€™m sure youll agree prof jones that americaā€™s top is at least as good as japans top.

a tad annoying that i cant get ggpo to work, im portfowarding correctly but still wont work. im on 2df tho. only good us ive come across there is damdai and brian. so iā€™ll need to get ggpo to work asap!

In all honesty, I got owned most of the time. But I learned lots of things and it was fun so itā€™s still a good experience. I donā€™t have vids of myself playing there.

Judging by the past years tournament results, the best ST players in the US are you and your brother, Valle and Choi. I didnā€™t play against any of them so I canā€™t really compare. And even if I did, the only way to really compare the top players of the two countries would be to organize a Japan vs USA event, like the one held in 2001 (IIRC).

In my opinion, I think that japanese tops are the best, because their playing conditions are perfect (good arcades, frequent rankings and tourneys), and there isnā€™t any better place on earth to practice and get better at the game. There also are more players in japan, with an overall much higher level than anywhere else. And keep in mind that theyā€™ve been having these playing conditions since SF2 ! Just imagine the power of top players coming from this environment. Itā€™s crazy.

Sounds like Heaven to me !

You mean like SBO 2007? Where my brother and I faced many of their best including first round vs the 2008 winner of SBO otuchun who many japanese have told me is the top player in japan, whose team we beat in 2007. Or at evo 2008 when John Choi defeated Nuki, whom many japanese consider the #2 chun in japan as well as him defeating Tokido and Kusumondo. Daigo also told me and my brother personally that if we went to tournaments into japan (this was in 2006) we could win some of them.

Im not here to talk trash, but i came back to the scene to prove to everyone that USA players could at least break even or even defeat japanese players so hearing anyone say we are less than even is an insult to my efforts.

Just keep in mind the results before ya doubt USAā€™s best

Graham

I would definitely like to see a us vs. japan 5 on 5 at ST though.
