with Vega, flash kick is most likely your only option. If claw guy’s positioning is dead on your normals will most likely be stuffed. If you’ve got a gap low short or low forward might work, but there’s a good chance you’ll trade, with you getting more damage. This match just sucks.
I’m not too sure with Bison or Chun. My game plan usually involves not to let them get in and start hassling me with normals. If it does happen though. I start blocking and preparing for any tick throw attempts. If you’re looking for normals which will beat out theirs, I’m not too sure. I’ve seen Ryu’s crouch jab and crouch strong snuff Bison’s stand kicks, but I’m not sure if Guile’s can do the same. But even that is high risk since if you trade you eat more damage.
against claw, a backward sobat kick seems to work sometimes. Not sure why/when though. sometimes it seems to get stuffed cleanly, sometimes it seems to stuff cleanly. I dunno.
I think I understand now why Kurahashi went for crossup, low strong flash kick instead of crossup low short x2 flashkick / super in the SBO finals. I can’t get low short x 2 flashkick to combo at all on chun li… seems like she gets pushed back too far or something. And low short x2 super is very finicky… ie, most of the time, only the first two hits combo, and then the rest is blocked. Can anyone confirm this? Or know of other characters with this property?
Im also starting to learn the timing on the invincible jumping short
low short link combos are really hard unless your timing with the button presses are dead-on. It’s a lot easier to use low jabs or low strong in your crossup combos. with the low jabs if you mess up you can even link stand strong xx sonic boom for a nice pushout pattern.
yeah, the low shorts are hard to time right. But that’s cause we’re scrubby North Americans. In Japan, any random Guile I was playing was doing invincible jumping short or crossup into short short super on reaction. And they were doing it with like 100% consistency. One time, this guy did the jump in, and it was blocked, along with the first short. But then the second short connected, and the guy still did the super in time.
I still can’t time the shorts consistently at all, but I’m getting slowly better at it. I think it’s very possible with practice.
Like I said before, the low shorts are WAY better than doing low strong, or low jabs. Cause they have to be blocked low.
If the guy blocks your jump in, he’s guaranteed to block the rest of it as well, cause you’re keeping him in block stun.
The low short gives you another chance to hit him, and is also better for ticking, since if the guy stands to throw you, either the 1st or 2nd short can catch him.
