GGS to cheezface immortal, roybisel, ghettoontherise, corrosion, ghaleon, and everyone who made ST at Alpha Attack (Cincy/Arcade Legacy) this past Saturday a blast!
Crap, I wish I had known about this, I need to get back into the loop
I don’t think this was announced anywhere? I didn’t know anything about it until Ghaleon sent me a text message when it was about to go on stream.
Yeah; I live within two hours of Cincy, and I just happened to catch a Facebook post that Ghaleon put up about ST at an event on Saturday. I messaged him on Thursday, and just happened to have the weekend off to make it up. Lucky I caught that, because the event was a breath of fresh air. We played in the middle of the common area of the mall so passers-by could spectate. Some of them would come up and reminisce about when they would play SFII back in the day, and even give “advice” on how to play, haha.
13 people played in the ST tourney, and it was mostly really tight old-school players. Frank/roybisel won it, Brent/cheezface immortal came in second, and Eric/Corrosion got third. Frank knocked me into losers, then Brent finished me off pretty deep into it. Dave/ghettoontherise and I had an amazingly tight set; his DeeJay is solid, and pushed my O.Chun to the limit.
After winning a few matches, I went 2-3 against Frank, then 1-3 against Brent. Picked almost entirely old characters; hell, I counterpicked Frank’s Dhalsim with O.Cammy and won that out, haha =p Also managed to pull off a great O.Dic win over his Ryu by way of a full screen fierce Devil Reverse designed to punish his jump strong attempt, it was hilarious. Frank was just so strong with Ryu, Guile, Boxer, and Sim that any wins were a rush. Even Brent’s great mix of technical pokes and turtling with Chun and Claw couldn’t best him. Everyone was having so much fun hanging out, catching up, and of course virtually pummeling each other.

Wait, wait, wait. So Ghaleon, who is a part of the STR Crew, didn’t think it necessary to inform STR about a rare Cincy tournament where Roy Bisel and Immortal were in attendance? That’s strange.
I didn’t see anything from Ghaleon or Immortal about it , now I’m mad at them, LOL. Jizzon, you only live 2 hours from Cincy? I’m surprised we haven’t ran into each other much more often at offline stuff. I think we only played in one offline tourney together? My memory sucks these days, I could wrong.
I hadn’t lived locally for years; I was active duty Air Force and got stationed in Okinawa, South Korea, and New Mexico before heading back here to finish an engineering degree off. (The more you know…?) I was at Power Up in 2011 when I was on leave, so maybe there? Well at least you should try to make it out for the Naptown Clutch next month. At the very least, Brent/immortal and a healthy handful of other solid ST players will be there.
eltrouble, I have nooooo idea why AA didn’t get any real press, man. Ghaleon was rocking the STR shirt! It wasn’t his event though, and there wasn’t any sponsorship. If I had known more than a day in advance, I would have posted something here, and I’ll make it a point to from now on. (Naptown Clutch in Indy next month!)
When there are any upcoming tournaments there in the Midwest or anywhere else for that matter PM me and I’ll make sure I get the word out on STR, FB, Twitter, etc. It’s a shame some players missed out on a tournament because they didn’t know about it.
Not exactly sure who anyone is or if there are still people on here. However, ggs to Sho’nuff, Orogasm, and Cossack. I don’t recognize too many other names on ggpo but you guys I can remember. This game is super frustrating at the moment lol, but I’m hooked.
