Well, still obviously VERY early, but from what we have seen, I would say Rufus is still a massive dick, and the Oni/Evil Shotos are a bit of a mystery still, Honda and Bison might still be easy contenders (see how those nerfs play out), Rog is still, well, ROG.
And where does Sim sit now? Or Abel? Its hard to say with all the little changes and whatnot, I do think top 5 in AE is going to take a good 6+ months to get a solid handle on, but with the twins creeping in I think Kuma has less room to fit in that tightly contested top 5. (he is still really good, no question)
Also, there be MANY rumors about pertaining to even MORE new characters being added to the AE console versions, who knows what/if those will be?
honda, dhalsim, both got major nerfs, they’re not contenders for top 15 even.
forgot about evil ryu. he does look really good on paper. havent seen too many serious matches involving him yet tho, and it will probrably be a while before someone starts making real noise with him
I don’t think execution should really factor in that much when talking about tiers. MvC2 Magneto is a bitch to get going at high levels, but he’s clearly better than the vast majority of the cast.
Is anyone on here really complaining about Akuma not being good? haha I don’t see it. I feel like the only thing up for debate is whether he is B+/A- tier or up there in A+/S tier with Yun and/or Fei.
Is he “high risk”… I guess that does depend on your definition. Any character with low hit points is going to require very precise playing, but does that necessarily mean he is a “high risk” character? As has been pointed out, tier lists are about the highest level of play possible with a character. Akuma is very high risk for a beginner whose spacing is terrible and who throws out tons of random DPs and predictable fireballs and teleports, but when he’s played by Tokido or Momochi, that’s not the case.
Dictator is a great character… Rog is really solid, but I just don’t think they are nearly as scary as Akuma. Akuma has a lot more options and can be played with so many styles and areas of the game at the highest levels.
I think part of why Akuma can be underrated in America is that there isn’t a truly brand name player who exclusively mains Akuma. Sanford played him some in vanilla, and Ed Ma was playing him for a while, but Akuma doesn’t get as much high level stream time as Rufus or Abel in America.
Maybe Akuma is tied with multiple characters who could all be in the top five, hypothetically, but I just don’t see how there are five characters that are all decidedly BETTER than Akuma, and yet plenty of people here are listing 7-10 characters other than Akuma as their picks for top tier, and I don’t get that. Whatevz!

I don’t see how you can put Oni in D Tier when we have yet to really see much at all out of him.
Akuma has too many option selects for his SAFE knockdown mixups. He’s top 5, and I really do think he’s low risk/high reward once he gets a knockdown.
Worse case scenario for Akuma is eating a reversal Ex DP.
Hell Akuma just doing empty neutral jumps is scary as shit.
My problem with Oni is that he seems to rely too much on those air dash gimmicks. Might work on noobs but that’s just not going to work on a decent player imo.
And when you look at the character as a whole, he has subpar footsies (besides f.hp) and slow speed + small throw range. I really don’t see how he couldn’t even be half a threat to be honest. He will be C tier at best imo.
Unless you main Adon or Juri like me. :3 I can just dash under those air fireballs lol.

I’d put Sagat in A Rank, people are beasting with Sagat in AE, RF still plays him and a bunch of others.
…especially since it doesn’t even really crossup 95% of the times and good players actually know this…of course you aren’t one fo those. can’t believe people are still blocking demon flip dive kick the wrong way after 2 years…it’s not like rufus dive kick that actually crossups often. For the last time, even if it LOOKS like it’ll hit you on your back, you gotta block it like a normal jump in unless in VERY specific (also character specific sometimes) situations where it’ll randomly crossup…not even Tokido can get that shit to crossup reliably.
Btw, Akuma will be top 5 in AE…right after fei and the twins…he’s basically untouched and most of the others got nerfed in some ways (sans fei lol)
I see it as Fei, Gief, Yun, Yang, and Akuma… Maybe Dhalsim too as top tier in AE.
From what I’ve heard Sim got quite a few damage nerfs…also, he has problems vs rushdown characters and AE will be full of those
sim loses to like every dive kick character, akuma, fei, viper, fuerte, seth, and abel by good margins. theres a couple more i cant think of right now.
he has too many bad matches to be top. he would have to steam roll just as many characters, but that isnt the case

…Do you main Akuma j/w? Hey I just got OS’d out of my tick throw attempt, next time I’ll go for a frame trap! EX reversal or DP FADC ultra and now I’m down 350-450 health…yeah everyone gets hit by that stuff but when your stun and health are that low that shizz hurts. Oh and you need like 7-8 mixups to finish people off now compared to the 3-4 it took in vanilla. For most characters 2 guesses will dizzy/annihilate Akuma. Viper can stun akuma in like…1 combo WTF?
7-8 mixups to finish a round? What mixup option are you using exactly? I’d say 5-6 tops.
