SSF4: Sagat thread

okay… I get what you are saying, and I am totally down with giving him the nerfing you are talking about… if sagat gets the easy links and block strings that ryu has, and give him a smaller hit box, and give him more mobility, and give him a MK cross up. If you don’t like getting hit traded TU into FRh into ultra… then DON’T JUMP IN!!! problem solved.

I hope they nerf his damage output by 5%, give jumping medium punch slightly less priority, remove some of the insane f.rk juggling, possibly reduce stamina by 5%

I’m sick of ppl thinking the only ppl who play sagat are those who want to play the god tier chars. Make him high-tier, but not god-tier… I won’t switch mains

if youre gonna do all that i suggest capcom give sagat a fast jab like boxer and dash speed like dictator

while youre at it i suggest that ryu not be able to ultra after a LP uppercut anti-air and rufus not have so many ultra set-ups

ive said before, leave the higher tiers the way it is and improve on the lower tiers for balance as opposed to nerfing the higher tiers.

Sagat is kind of an exception here…I mean really dude, can you actually say in good conscience that Sagat shouldn’t get even a single nerf?

Four 5-5 matchups.
Fifteen 6-4 matchups.

I’m not saying I want him nerfed all to hell. I like Sagat, and enjoy using him occasionally. Bro picks motherfuckers up by their dome and knees the shit out of them. He’s badass. But, he needs some tweaking or winning with Sagat will continue to be a hollow victory. Every time I win a round with him, I feel like I cheated a bit…Every time I land that c.MK xx TU, FADC, f.RH, Ultra combo I can feel my opponent grumbling to himself about how lame Sagat is and I know he’s right. :expressionless:

That said, if he must be nerfed, I would prefer damage reduction as opposed to altering his moveset. His combos are too awesome to be tampered with, but if tweaking of f.RH must be done, I guess it must be done. Perhaps they could just remove the AA f.RH*2, Ultra combo along with a tad bit of damage reduction and call it a day?

I agree, it seems unfair to alter his new style when the damage could just be scaled accordingly. It sounds like everyone is mostly just pissed about AA f.RH x2, and if that’s what it takes, then fuck it. But seriously, someone with brains should post this type of thread in the SSF4 forum and suggest some reasonable nerfs.

No shit, but that doesn’t mean he should be nerfed to fucking hell.

He won’t… He’ll still be s-tier. He’ll still be awesome. They’ll just change some of the frame data and hit boxes slightly, they aren’t trying to make him like a child, just close the gap between him and vega. They’ll probably nerf the top 5 a little bit, and buff the bottom 5 a little bit to get them closer to the middle 15. I wouldn’t be surprised if th the tier charts stay exactly the same order… just a bit less 7-3 matchups.

But, just changing the frame data and/or hitboxes could be monumental.

yes… it could be. BUT, they have absolutely no intention of making him vega tier. otherwise they would have done it by now. He’s always good, and Ono seems to have a good idea of what he would consider broken in the game, and not much of that would be anything with sagat. Look at what I think is his most recent interview, he pokes fun at people who claim moves in the game (being Deejay’s slide kick i think) is broken. He knows that people complain about some moves just because they don’t know how to block or punish. They might do something as simple as making his standing HK a 1 hit move. That would be a substantial nerf that would even out some matchups, and not affect his gameplay that much.

I’m not a game designer, so I don’t have any specific ideas on what they are going to do. But I really don’t think that we should be worrying that sagat will be a C tier any time in the SF4 franchise.

HK has always been two hits though.

All his stand kicks have been. I doubt they would do that.

Anyway, guys if he drops below top tier expect me to drop him. Just a heads up.

The recent tier list, like it or not, but that has nothing to do with my point that follows, suggests FIVE 7:3 match ups favoring Sagat, so let us go with that.

Three of those 7:3 match ups that favor Sagat are against characters (Dan, Claw, and Guile) who simply suck. It has absolutely nothing to do with Sagat being this unbeatable and overpowered character as much as it has to do with the simple fact that these three characters lack the necessary tools to win. They have few, if any, winnable match ups for a reason.

The other two characters, Zangief and E.Honda, Sagat beats by design. He can keep them out. It is kind of like how Guile, a low tier character, beats Dictator and E.Honda albeit he is obviously not a better overall character than they are. What can be done about this? I am not sure, but I do know that these “by design” match ups have existed since Super Turbo.

My point is that before you look to tone down the top tier characters, look to improve the low tier characters. I mean, Ryu and Rufus have 4-5 legitimate ways to combo into their ultra combos yet Guile and Claw have none. How is that fair? Unless Claw is to obtain some Akuma-like vortex with decent damage output, he will continue to suffer as a character if he cannot combo into his ultra combo.

Also, I really think some fighting game developers approach the concept of nerfing incorrectly. Take Namco and Tekken, for example. If a certain move is really good in a Tekken game, you can expect it to be reduced to utter uselessness OR removed entirely in the next instalment of the series. Would any sensible person even call that process “balancing”? I would not. That is just laziness on the developers’ part in my opinion because they are not even looking for alternatives. I hope that Capcom does not follow this route with Super Street Fighter IV.

Just cuz someone only plays top tier doesn’t make them any less dedicated and doesn’t mean they love the game less.

Just means they want a strong character with strong tools.

well i dont really think hes too over powered … i mean look at his stature. hes almost twice as big as the other characters … same for zangief … its obviously that he makes more damage then ryu or someone else “normal size” character … maybe they sould reduce the ultra damage but then it should at least dont have the “corner bugs”…

as long as balrog(boxer) has the hardest punch i think its ok

only thing i would like to change would be the specialcombo… something that differs more from the ultra … maybe a grab head to knee … standart move in kick/thai boxing, but verry powerfull and looks awesome too … or at least as normal grab
