Sharin, you should try using a well-timed EX Karakusa as an anti-air. Take the hit and grab, plus you get ultra meter for a potential U1. You’d get alot of use out of one bar if you used it that way.

So Karakusa isn’t guaranteed off of normal->any hayate? She was famous for her post-hayate mix-ups…the distance it sends opponents is kind of disappointing.

Nah, but that’s not too big a change; Karakusa was never guaranteed off any hayate. The F+LK kara may give it sufficient reach to let it work like the old days, assuming the timing is masterable.

one thing I’m thinking about is that sharin said that f.lk is the one thing that could reset after EX hayate in the corner, but f.LK is much slower than most of her other pokes…is it the only normal that will hit them in a juggle like that? otherwise I was thinking st.MP should do nicely or maybe even cr.FP…maybe even cr.LP since it would allow you more time to act

still wondering about cross-up fukiage as corner mix-up after EX hayate though (EX hayate->f.LK->HP fukiage since the fukiage SHOULD cross up will it hit since the hitbox is slightly behind her?)

you could do stuff like that in 3S after some resets so you probably can but after a f. LK reset i don’t know.

Played this at Wondercon. I’m pretty rusty, and this was a limited sample size so take this with a grain of salt. She seems like she can be an effective character. Her EX overhead combos out of her low short very quickly. Her low strong looks like a good poke, which allows for a good entry into the dash punch game. Her dash is quick, but there seemed to be a slight delay stopping any dash>throw, dash>choke>, or dash>low short shenanigans. This could have been rust, but I felt like a good dash got me to neutral, but not to an advantage. Her EX dash punch is great. Mega fast. So fast that it’s hard to even tell what properties it has in a limited sample.

Biggest disappointment: her choke has NO range. Even touching toes, it missed. I tried to grab Sagat out of his ultra, and it was a no-go. Could have been bad timing, so much more play time by better players will be needed, but it definitely doesn’t seem like you can bring all of the 3s Makoto plans to SF4. She may be very effective, but definitely not in the same ways that she was.

Man did that command grab feel nerfed. The roundhouse command grab felt too slow for offense. Might still be useful as a counter in footsies, but time will tell.

Dash never put you at an advantage if they are waiting for it… they can just poke you all day. Her dash looks to have less recovery time than her 3s dash.

I’m pretty sure they did actually say that they were going to be free. If not then they at least implied it. Unfortunately, they had a change of heart and decided to charge for them, again. Capcom wants money, lol. So yeah, gotta pay for them if you want them.

They’ve never said exactly how alt costumes will work for the new characters. New alt costumes for old characters are definitely DLC as there are preorder promotions out right now offering a free set with Guile, Gen etc. For new characters i assume the same tactic.

Alternate1 for vanilla cast = free

alternate 2 for vanilla cast and alternate 1 for the new challengers = $$$

Actually I’m pretty sure alternate 1 being free is if you already bought it for vanilla.

Ive been playing less makoto these days because im giving other characters a try also (specially dudley), but last night I had like 60 matches against helltpm cody as makoto and Im pretty sure I can say cody has advantage in that matchup.

@v-ryu I tried it a bit and you can combo c.jab/shot and hayate after normal oroshi, it can be nice for some mixups

think about trying oroshi->FA2?
I wonder how many active frames oroshi has and if a meaty oroshi would link into anything?
oroshi->FA2->st.FP->hayate by itself should be in the 350ish range, assuming the other theory juggles don’t work (I’m really hoping at least FA2->FA1->fukiage works)
