I am starting to think that u1 is a better choice in this match. I know some people will be negative on this but catching Gouken with u2 isn’t all that practical. You can play lame like Slinkun said throwing booms at mid screen or further back while using down back charges when gouken has meter. If you have a life lead he will try to get in with a demon flip. If you know what to loom for you can catch with u1. Also if you get a back throw you can use the backfist safe jump and bait a tatsu for u1 punish. All wiffed tatsus are easily u1ed for that matter.
Also , careful on crossups. If you land one he’ll most likely use his ex armor move to escape/punish. Sometimes an empty crossup into a throw does the trick. Follow up with either glasses or taunt 5
Thanks for the advices and pointers.
I jumped way too much as you have already noticed, but I realized after a few matches that he mainly does FA when I jump in instead of AA it with cr. HP (?) and EX tatsu which is also 1 of the few reasons why I risked so many jump ins. Later on he did rely more on EX tatsus as AA instead of FA though.
“Just don’t get hit by his fireballs” is kinda difficult at least for me. I feel like I am always jumping in his up fireball and getting punished by his running palm right away after that everytime. Can’t seem to react properly on these for some reason or Matt-Hazard is just very good at a guessing game.
I will see what I can do better next time when I see this Gouken player once again.
Thanks once again.
Yah. Dodging fireballs is a pretty tall order when talking about playing online against any character really.
I still think U2 is a better choice. While it’s true that if you snag a life lead, he will try to demon flip in, but in that case you shouldn’t need the huge damage since you already have the lifelead. Meanwhile, if Gouken gets the life lead, U2’ing through a fireball is much more likely. Also, while you may not be able to backfist him well on matched fireballs due to the recovery and his hitbox, landing sonic hurricane when he throws a fireball is no harder than landing it on ryu or sagat. He does have a rather large window to FADC the fireball after the U2 cinematic and backdash, but even then at least you got him to burn some meter.

Aah, that Dictator? Yeah, umm…I’m going to post up my commentary on that match. I went 5-2 against him. There was like 2 to 3 frame delay in the matches. I like to frame trap and none of my setups were working. I was also hellbent on doing two particular things in the matches so if you saw me doing some retarded stuff, just wait for my POV on the match. I’ll have it up later tonight (in a couple of hours). All in all, it was online and it was fun but nothing to take too seriously. XD.
Also I don’t play on PSN at all anymore. I play solely on PC only.
Pretty much perfected the whiffed b+lk > Super/Ultra 1 setup. Can literally pull it off 9/10 times at will. Never realized how many people automatically stick a poke out when they see Guile whiff a b+lk at close range. Have to thank Modinside for showing this off and special thanks to Gilley for explaining how/why it works.
So now there’s 3 setups off of a whiffed b+lk that are extremely usable and effect.
I’ve actually been using the throw version recently for getting out of the corner when they hang at just that range (and putting them into the corner). Also been using it after landing a forward throw and it’s actually not too bad I wonder how safe/unsafe it actually is. (suppose I should go look at frame data but it’s kinda weird to count). Feels more like a shenanigan than a safe thing to do. However I have not thought of the other 2 after a forward throw so i think I’ll give those a try sometime.
