SSF4 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (Old)

Considering c.mp comes out in 5, it’s pretty hard to punish with it. You might as well go for TC2 xx hands in that case, since it pushes you close to the opponent, does more damage if it hits, and s.HP is as fast as c.MP in terms of startup.

I personally never punish drills unless they it’s a baited EX drill that lands very deep.
In that case, st.jab (his only grounded 3f normal) > TC2 xx lk gekiro.
Another option is s.mp > TC2 xx lk gekiro.

Both are better options than c.mp. Best normals vs Rose are sweep from max range and cr.hp. Standing MP is also great for outside her range to stuff her pokes.
c.MP is meh since she can stuff it easily since it’s so low, whilst not even being a goddamn low hit (fu capcom).

I know you guys have been playing Gen way longer than me, so I figure you must realize my pain on these points:

Seriously, you should be able to control Ryukoha in the air just like the Flying Giga Buster, and also use it to move backwards to counter cross-ups (at least in the corner) and the startup should be increased.

Make Teiga work better… how can Burning Dance flip Viper backwards and not the same for Teiga? -_- And it gets beat by lariats and other shit.

Been feeling good about my Gen, got an ongoing session now with a couple of my sparring buddies whom I’ve played with a lot and just got my second perfect XD I think they’re mostly attributed to a lack of knowledge on the matchup though. I’m actually on a win streak right now, lol.

Zetsuei needs projectile invincibility on startup, I cannot even…

Shit, as I wrote this, he ended my 6 win streak. I was too far from the TV to make out the tiny number, could’ve been 5. lol

I’m not so hot though. Seriously, my BnB is just [m] j. mk, s. mk, l. waterfall kicks, lol. It’s crazy though, you take some damage in the match, then you land an EX Oga, crane standing roundhouse, then cross-up mantis mk, standing mk, light waterfall kicks and you’ve done so much damage already.

;’) I fucking love this character. Gen repping it for life.

Also, shoutouts to Zetsuei beating Shin Shun Goku Satsu and Teiga catching bitches on backdash.

Zetsuei has some projectile invincibility frames right at the beginning, if it was completely invincible, Teiga would be rather useless, no?

Even if there is… it doesn’t feel like enough… I’ve activated with fireballs floating in my face and been cut down.

Zetsuei has a very short invincibility window. It only works if you use it against projectiles on wakeup when the projectile is right on top of you. Compared to, say, Gyro Drive Smasher, it’s nothing.

But remember that Zetsuei has several decent combo setups; oga->Zetsuei, Zanei->Zetsuei, [c]c.lk->Zetsuei (hard outside of corner). It also makes it easy to do cowardly focus attacks->back dash and snag a crumple, then punish with ultra. Without it or Zanei, you have to forward dash to get a good follow up, which is risky.

If your timing is sufficiently awesome, it also works decently as an anti-air in certain situations.

I agree with you, i think the issue with Mantis U1 is that it doesn’t move fast. It has 11f of startup with the first 10 being invincible, but if you’re trying to go “through” something that’s not really close it’ll lose. it goes a long distance in general, but the distance it goes while invincible is pretty small. I’ve had much more luck with Anti-air mantis U1 than trying to go through projectiles. IMO that’s what mantis lp/mp.zanei is for (if you’re trying to go through a projectile).

You guys realize this is the Super Match-up Thread Target Combos don’t apply.

you might want to ask a mod to lock the thread and just keep it stickied, if you want to keep it around for historical purposes but want to centralize all the matchup traffic to the AE thread. Probably less confusing to new-commers (and to those who are subscribed to the thread).
