cammy info updated, thanks warlike.
No trouble at all, it’s been awhile since my my last write up.
Severin-X, you should sent some of that stuff on Abel to messiah via PM, he’ll add it to the openingspost.
Yeah I was gonna ask you if you minded if I sent that along with a full write up of the match. I didn’t want to step on any toes though being newer to this area though so I figured I would check with you first. If you dont mind me changing some of the strategy then I will get to it today and send it off as soon as I can.
To be fair the Gen community is so small I don’t think anyone would mind. Valid knowledge is welcome from anyone, even more so if that person actually used to main (or mains) the character he is writing about (to such great detail I might add!).
I did the same for the Seth write-up actually, if you play with a character it’s so much easier to write an essay on them because you know all the little things that someone can’t know if they don’t play that particular character.
Interestingly enough I don’t have that much trouble with Abel, mainly because his footsies suck ass and I am at heart a footsie player. I agree with his mix-up game being a little bit overrated though, I mean it’s good and all but the only thing I’d actually fear mix-ups wise are his c.hp roll jab etc. shenanigans. He also has pretty much no solid anti-air either, which makes life easier for us.
Excellent, I will write it up today then. And I agree when you can really get nuanced about the match up it helps.
just put it in the same format for me, I was going to do that but I don’t have time to sort it. if you can do it for me I’ll add it. posts only allow so many characters, so more than likely i’ll have to move them around again, i had to for cammy. that was fun.
No problem most of my stuff i just list under general strategy anyway. I may have to send you multiple PMs though given space limitations. So if it ends up being easier if I e-mail you something I can do that too. My goal is that no Gen player gets bodied by Abel again. Unless they are playing JuiceBox or something.
not sure if this has been covered by as for ultra 2 from rufus if you have ultra 2 you can ultra 2 mantis him. then again i do not understand it fully. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. distance being very close and very far have ended up being you get smashed or he does. noooo clue so you guys help me with that maybe? also ive done mantis ultra 2 against it more times successfully being in crane style then doing ultra mantis after rufus activates or on wake up. also on jump in crane ultra 2 will stop it… SOMETIMES. once again i tried testing different angles but i dont know. been right up on rufus almost crossup. been far away. been on tpo of him. its insanely random and i dont get it. i assume its you catching him between the hits maybe?
most of the time i got mantis 2 to connect with a small split second delay between the pull from the ultra and my own activation
All of Gen’s Ultras will work (except crane U1 obv). Rufus’ U2 has a shit ton of startup and invul frames. That’s why you’re trading/losing often because gen’s invul isn’t as long as his, so you have to delay the attack significantly. It has shit startup (13 frames). So you have to delay your ultra’s a bit, non reversal and it’ll hit every time. Even with Crane U2 you can jump away, just do it late so he has no more invul, and you’re still in yours when you hit. And with mantis super use lp, mp/hp either (a) don’t have enough invul or (b) go behind him and you get hit in the back.
The easiest way to hit it consistently is NOT to do it with reversal timing, this does work point blank.
A very noble cause!
I will use the knowledge you have shared to crush a certain person
Well I sent it off to Messiah but it was stupid detailed so I feel sorry for him having to edit length to get it to fit. That is the noble cause IMO.
If he cant get it up for some reason or it doesn’t cover what you are loosing to let me know.
I’ll work on it tomorrow. I’ll probably have to shift some names around as each post has like 2500 word limit.
ON the subject of Ultras etc. I’ve had a few moments where Teiga traded. Like with Goukens demonflip dive kick. He EX flipped at me, I tiger knee’d the ultra when he was right in front of me, and he pressed kick and it traded… wtf eh?
Updated. Damn had to give Abel his own post as I was at 30,000 characters. Limit is actually 25,000. Thanks Warlike for Fei and Severin-X for Abel. Both credited.
I just wanted to point out to people who are having problems with projectile and zoning characters. I’ve been playing more patient than ever. Jumping straight up almost all of the time, unless someone like Ryu has super, I try to limit that. And when I say super patient, i mean overly patient. more patient than you can stand. That’s how you have to play. jump straight up, walk forward slowly and block all projectiles. then use aa’s if they decide to jump in. and use a mix of pokes and movement. I just played a really really good 10K ryu, awesome footsies, solid defense, and had his fireballs spacing and timing pretty on par. I neutral jumped. Focused his FBs towards him. and moved back n forth. still jumping straight up. I would Focus through fireballs and not always attack, then when I knew it was time to try it, I would Focus through then Mantis s.MP. I’m telling you guys, just play super patient. go into training and look at distances for characters pokes and how gen matches up. Set a dummy chunli or ryu to do their standard poking, move back n forth and have them use their hit confirms like ryu’s c.MK to hadouken. etc etc. Then practice getting used to moving back n forth and countering. Guys it pays off. I still need to work on my game. But I’ve been removing jumping in for a mindless cause a lot more. I still tend to make risky mistakes. I mean even daigo jumps in sometimes.
Jump when you have the read. When you KNOW they’re gonna fireball. THAT is when you jump-in. Don’t be too afraid to jump in unless it’s going to lead to ultra. You can eat 140 dmg for a guess that’ll lead to ~300dmg. Just don’t do it over and over.
yea im getting better at not jumping random with gen, only problem is i suck a lot with gen aa options.
i might take your advice messiah, since i need to work on my spacing and footsies, because i am horrid. tell you one thing after playing gen with his meh defense help me a lot when i started playing cody.
also practice switching between stances to use AA’s in that stance, or practice using all of them. Mantis s.MP works pretty good vs some characters. Best thing to do is look at who gives you the most trouble when they jump in. Really what I try to do is not AA if they are going to hit me with the tip of their foot. Ryu’s jumping HK is godlike. so Unless he’s not right on top of me, usually I dash back or just block. I find it has way too much reach for gen to really do anything. Same with Gief. His jump in normals are fucking way too hard for gen to deal with, as he can jump in from so far away, you think it’s going to just be a neutral jump and then he throws out his HP or what ever it is that has so much reach. People forget to use some of Gen’s standing normals as AA’s some of them work well some of them at least you trade and reset the spacing.
For Ryu if you have annoyed him in footsie to the point where you can get him to jump at you you can avoid pretty much all of his jump ins by using mantis cMK in my experience it lowers Gen’s hit box to the point where the jHP whiffs and you can then get in a grab of ground poke attempts. I have been giving the local Ryu here fits with this. This seems to work on other chars jump ins as well unless their jump attack has a really low hitting downward angle.
My only real problems with ryu are, srk mashing, but usually I can bait that out. and online fireballs. Sometimes the timing is so off I eat 3 before I get through one.
crane c.MK works wonders as well but if they are mashing SRK after the jump in they will hit you. But if you time it right you can hit them. This works vs all of his jump ins that I’ve tested.
I honestly dont mind the Ryu match up at all. I am not trying to say its free but its not overly problematic. You can match or beat Ryu’s footsie in most cases with sMK xx Hands especially since that beats his cMK at max range. So I start the match up avoiding Fbs patiently until in footsie range and then I force them to jump and either avoid the jump in or EX Gekiro. I especially like using the Mantis cMK as a bait to get them to jump and then crouch DPing with EX Gekiro. It beats all his jump ins clean and I dont mind the meter waste here because I am not worried about having to land super. The only time this match turns ugly is on Gen’s knockdown since Ryu can easily safe jump you and then mix you up in to another safe jump set up.
