He only beats you at max range (or second hit) if I remember right, St.Fierce comes out faster, I could be wrong.
Also you can punish his roundhouse, if you know he’s going for it, wait till it comes out and hit him with fierce.

thanks for the Chun matchup tips. she is a rough character who controls the ground & air
Do*** not*** OS tech against any decent cammy; she is one of the characters that can punish OS tech HARD (Instant Air dive kick xx whatever). If you utilize FA to beat her dive kicks, it makes the fight alot easier
i beat codys ultra 2 with cross counter today. also, it seems like guys flip grab will whiff if you duck.
edit i was in close with codys U2. it might be a different story if the dusts hits you.
I realllllly need some help vs the Geif matchup. I’m not sure how to (or even if I can) anti air him and… generally even how to attack. It feels really bad so far but maybe someone has some tips?
st.mk beats the majority of his jump-ins. HP Jet Upper trade works well if necessary. Gief can’t jump in on Dudley for free.
Gotta st.fp footsies him. Don’t jump. Uh… lk, mk, mp, hp target combo is good for pushing you away from Gief on block. Mix in grabs.
If he gets you in the corner cry for mercy.
just dont get knocked down and you should be able to handle the matchup vs gief
if he constantly jumps in on you and you feel pressured, EX MGB so you are across the screen from him. maybe try cross counter too. if its a crossup, at least you will be a safe distance away for recovery.
@ the “dudley is overhyped” convo:
you got overhyped when you started thinking he was gonna be a gamebreaker. Ill admit i felt a bit of the same when i saw stuff like wong’s tutorial video and saw some of the damage data. but this isnt Marvel vs Capcom 2. This is a pretty well balanced game, theres no one character that you can sit on and expect easy cake wins. dudley is fine as is IMO, would some things be better? yes definitely but then hed probably be too overpowered.
the only thing that makes me sad is lack of any balrogs online. i play ken and juris the most when id really like to have a good boxing match =\
Why? Boxer’s pokes are so much better than Dudley’s… or at least, that’s what it seems like
Agreed , it’s like the only match up where i can do cross counter mind games
Was talking to EmblemLord a few seconds ago.
Man, Dudders is really fun to play, but fuck he has so many uphill battles. Dictator, Chun Li, Adon, Ken, Boxer. Basically, anyone with a move longer than st.fierce and with anti-airs.
I have a feeling Dudley just doesn’t have enough. What does he have?
But the issue is that he doesn’t have a solid way of setting up his strengths. Dictator can literally lock his entire game down with st.roundhouse. You gotta’ work REALLY hard to be able to exploit his strengths and if you’re playing a good player you’ll most likely run out of life before you get the chance.
Just voicing my opinion on him. Again, he’s so fun to use that I’ll probably stick with him as a strong secondary, but I don’t see Dudders dominating any scene anytime soon.
I will give Duds credit. He is so much fun to play he overwhelmed my blatant tier whorism enough to make him a solid alt for me. But I think I’ll pick up Cody too so I have a slightly more reliable character. Losing to one button in several match-ups isn’t cool imo.
coming from 3s i too was a little disappointed with some of the changes they’d made (SSF4 neutral jump fierce will always kill me). luckily there wasn’t a whole lot to be disappointed about. once i got used to the pace and feel of Duds in SSF4 i will say he still plays like 3s Dudley.
things i’ve found:
-st. RH is now, and forever shall be, one of my greatest loves. it stuff Adon’s Jaguar Tooth and Jaguar Kick CLEAN when timed correctly. it’s really easy to get down.
-counter poke everything on everyone cancel to EX MGB yada yada we all know this.
-st FP beats out ALL of Makoto’s normals. if you’re not applying pressure and making her guess just walk back far enough and keep her cornered with that. learn to get good at stuffing her dashes AND dash punches with st. RH, even EX. good backup plan if you’re both at a stand still midscreen. still works in this game, but a little harder and requires even more patience.
-Gief and Hawk aren’t as hard as i thought they would be. Hawk feels more troublesome because of his ridiculously long pokes. st. RH stuffs dives easy. do you get full damage if you punish Condor Dive with U2 on block? if not then U1 definitely gets the job done. you can AA Gief pretty easily with a lot of stuff. i like st. FP and i believe trades in your favor. st. FP also keeps him out pretty well too, even beating lariat from a safe distance.
-Hakan is free once you get him in the corner. just gotta watch out for 360. otherwise do as Freddie Mercury says and just keep him UNDAH PRESHA!
when i think of more stuff i’ll come back.
I agree with your assessment, He seems to lack the footsie game required to set up his mojo, fwd mk has great frames and can link to his awesome jazz, but good luck landing a fwd mk against anyone who knows what Dudley can do, anyone with decent long range footsies can poke Duds out of everything he has.
Projectiles arent really an issue, but projectiles + long range poke + invincible AA moves makes life for Duds exceedingly difficult, its almost like they made Duds like a grappler, except grapplers can rely on singular moves to do decent damage. (im still salty over the fact that Rog has super armor on his EX moves, and for some reason Duds does not)
I dunno, im still trying to figure out how to poke my way in with Duds, it seems more and more to me that you must get maximum damage at every opportunity.
Im gonna stick with learning Duds, because quite frankly, my main is so easy mode in SSF4 that I dont even feel like I need to work on him that much. (a la Guile) Im really not sure about breaking out Duds at a tourney though, its so damn risky. (the last tourney I went to I won all of the matches I played as Guile, and lost all the matches I played as Duds)
I’m having a lot of trouble against Ibuki and Guy. I can’t seem to get in close; whenever I try any sort of dashing move I get caught by a random slide sweep or neck breaker, or they just flip over my head. Granted I’m still a beginner Dudley player and I’m still learning the ways of SSF4 online play, but it’s kind of embarrassing that I, classy as I am, keep losing to these ninja wannabes.
I know Dudley has a hard time with long range pokes, but some of you are making it out to be more free than it is. If people are beating you with just one button, that’s not Dudley’s fault.
What I find works against characters like Dictator and Chun is to focus absorb their HP/HK pokes, dash through, low jab; I don’t try to crumple them, I don’t charge to Level 2. Since moves like Chun’s cr. roundhouse take so long to recover, Dudley’s fast dash puts him at an advantage, while low jab stuffs their attempt to retalitate. You’re in and you’re ready to mix them up. Sometimes forcing them to block a quick Level 2 FA can be effective as well, because it leaves you at +3, again due to Dudley’s quick dash. It seems simple, but it works to great effect.
Is it really +3? Seems neutral or negative to me as I sometimes get counter poked.
Only lvl 1 focus attack is -3 if you dash after,so that’s when you get punished, if you dash after a lvl 1 focus attack, but level 2 focus attack is indeed +3, letting you pressure the opponent, and allows you to set frame traps after.
