Cody beasts on me, I can’t seem to get in on him and he sits back with his better-priority-jabs and silly EX Bingo’s. Fuck. Any advice? I read the section about it in the OP but it doesn’t seem to help much.
I played this good Feilong today, and I took a mental note on a spacing that I felt in control and it was just about where his Chicken wing just about reaches his peak iirc. I was there and was able to aa if he jumped i was able to counter poke him when he did long pokes Chicken win can reach at that distance but the first hit doesn’t reach if you can just counter poke that with cr mp if he goes for the second hit. Now I didn’t get to test it on multiple skilled feilongs… but i felt the most in control at that space. I will post the match vid where it was a drawn out match but i felt in control.
I need help with the Honda match up. It feels completely unwinnable
Duds beats Sagat. Hang out at mid range and Sagat has no options.
Gotta agree with that one, this might be Dudley’s best matchup so far. IV series style of incompatible gameplay designs right there.
BTW, how is the Chun and Guile mu going for you guys? I used to think it was pretty terrible, but now I think both are merely 5.5 against him.
Currently struggling against Cammy though, Dudley seems to completely lack wakeup options against her (Ex DP goes behind meaty cannon strike for some reason) plus her c.mk works even better than Ryu’s or Rose’s c.mp against him.
Just block it and be ready to tech the throw and crouch block. No need to DP imo.
Chun is easier to manage but Guile is a pain in the ass. I find him worse than Chun.
And yeah, Sagat has nothing for Dudley lol.
The main issue is getting on a good Cammy that knows about Dudley’s weakness. She’s either zoning me with c.mk/s.hk or keeping dive kick/tick throws pressure. Crouch tech against her doesn’t last for too long. I won’t complain about it though, Dudley is supposed to have trouble with pressure, but getting zoned by Cammy is ugh… oh, she also builds meter like a queen, even if I can get on her, she just dp fadc and takes the momentum back.
With other characters, Dudley can usually punish a move full screen on reaction with EX MGB when he sees the other character do a move with an obvious animation (Cody’s rock throw is a good example). Cammys who can pump out IA dive kicks are pretty impossible to punish. I hate letting characters build meter for free.
5.5 against guile?! please show me some of your matches or give me help on this. If i ever got in on a guile I’m sure i’d give him hell, but uh, getting in, that’s a hard thing to do.
Cammy shouldn’t be able to get in on Dudley though. And I am pretty sure OS cr.MP crouch techs are the winning option when she does? Counter poke her cr.MK with your own by baiting it out using Dudley’s fast walk speed.
Hell, if you catch her with at least a jab ONCE and you have the customary 1 bar of EX that’s a third of her life gone in the blink of an eye.
C.mp against her c.mk is is so unrealiable, might as well just say it doesn’t work, and it hurts when it fails. It does works against s.hk (FA would be a better choice) but that’s why she will press c.mk with spiral os more often. If there’s some good vid of this matchup somewhere, please post because I really need to take a look.
If I sounded too optimistic on the Guile mu, that’s because I used to main Dictator lol. I’ll try my best to get some material to talk about by the end of the week.
Cr.MK with your own. You punish it on whiff. Same as a Shoto.
C.mk is indeed the only poke that can counter it, though it’s obviously much easier said than done since our c.mk is like twice as slow and has less active frames. Shoto’s c.mk can be countered by c.mp just fine, they just improved Cammy’s hitbox a bit too much. =P
avoid getting cornered
im pretty sure honda has air to air superiority in most cases
pick ultra 1 - punishes all headbutts
fierce beats many pokes and certain headbutts
be wary of s.hk, havent found a solid way around that yet
u can cross counter buttslam on the way down
if u predict an attempt for jab hands, at near max range you can focus the jab and then backdash ASAP, the hands come out and if it’s fierce it can be punished w/ s.hp, or s.rh xx ex MGB if u feel the range is right
im slowly thinking about abandoning the U1 vs fireball characters idea as well in most cases.
I still like it against Gat/Sim/Chun, but the shotos I certainly see your perspective 100%.
Chun doesn’t throw nearly enough fireballs.
Sim doesn’t throw too many fireballs close enough for U1 to hit, unless I’m missing another use for U1 in this fight.
Sagat should be scared of throwing fireballs thanks to ducking.
I think U1 is good vs Bison to punish back teleports and moves that would pass through you and too far for U2 to connect. And vs Honda since headbutts are something you need to discourage lol.
hey I’m a relatively new dudley player , just trying to learn him as a alt because he’s just so fun to play with but niceness aside im having trouble with the vega matchup
>:C he just seems to hit me with that c.mp no matter what i do , my first thought was to try catch his random punches with ex jetupper , didnt work that well. next i tried cross counter which i couldnt seem to get out his punch beat me on startup everytime
just wondering if anyone has any insite into how i’d go at this matchups , i know my flaws and thats that i jump too much and jet upper to much and im working on that , is there anything else i can try?
Boggles
When in doubt, spam Fierce Punch.
Trading with Vega is always good for Dudley. If they like to do any flip kick on wakeup, j HK trades or beats it. As soon as you get in, stay in, block string with c. LP, f. MK and throw him around, until he tries to tech the throw or get away. F. HP can catch him doing backflips.
I find myself landing U1 off a quick focus crumple on Chun (fuck her frc and rh, lol) and having the threat of U1 deters FB usage. Sim cant teleport safely and has to be REAL careful of sticking out his arms with U1 sitting charged. And Sagat? He recovers pretty slow from ALOT of stuff, and killing his FB game is no joke either.
While U2 certainly is the almighty combo toy, no question, I find the massive damage and gimmicks of U1 can carry Dudley pretty far in some matchups.
I prefer U2 now against shotos because I actually like when they’re not scared to throw out fireballs. Why have an ultra totally dedicated to fight against fireballs when you already have ducking AND the totally versatile U2? Rolling Thunder for low level online shotos (and ALL online Akumas…what’s the deal with fireball slopfest on their part, anyway?). Corkscrew Cross for all other shotos. I mean, I’d honestly deal with a Ryu who wants to fireball and dragon punch than a Ryu who knows he can only dragon punch.
Also, I rarely play good Bisons. I can’t tell if c.lp/f.mk frame traps are super effective against him or not. It was working exceptionally well for me when I tried it…but I was so on my game that I actually couldn’t tell if he was good or not. PROBABLY a sign that he wasn’t too good, though.
