SSF4 AE T.Hawk Match-up Thread

A matchup between one character who has a huge advantage on his side and a character that needs to take advantage of grave mistakes to even stand a chance is not a 5-5 matchup. What you said may be correct, but it doesn’t change the fact that Hawk is at a disadvantage and thus the matchup needs to be put somewhere between 6:4 and 7:3 in favor of Guile.

Also hawk has an unblockable on guile after lp spd. so mix it in on your mixups!!

Yeah, saw it earlier. My main problem right now is landing the SPD in the first place though.

Btw, has anyone else tried to do j.HK from a far jump-in on Guile? From my experience it beats c.HP clean and gives you a combo. Should beat some airgrab attempts too I guess. I for one am gonna play around with it some more. It would be nice to get feedback from someone else about this too. Because if it works, it’s a very low risk, high return way to get in.

You just need to be really patient. I played Dieminion at T13, he won 3-1. The times I won rounds were the times I got in and knocked him down. Inch forward and jump when you can. If you’re consistently getting anti-aired by normals you can do a late dive to beat normals and then the Guile player needs to guess on how to anti-air. If you’re getting air thrown do early jump j.hk. You really need to get into your opponents head.

Maybe the next time I play Rebelo (he’s finally playing AE again lol) I’ll record it and upload it to see if it helps you see how the matchup goes.

Thanks, but don’t go out of your way to do it if you don’t want to. I have plenty to think about until next time, and I have no idea when that will be. I’m simply curious if you might be able to simply brute force your way in by jumping a lot, since none of Guile’s AAs seem foolproof against T.hawk except Flash Kick, which of course requires him to stop throwing booms. Sounds kinda scrubby, but who knows, might work.

Id appreciate any info guys. Thanks a lot <3

This is all well and good, but you’re forgetting one thing: getting in against Honda is tougher than Dhalsim.

Just walk forward. :s

Uhm…no.

I’m sure his crude usage of the term, “get in” was meant to refer to “knock down”.
Assuming that that’s what he meant, I’d say he at least has a debatable point…

While both characters have great defensive tools to keep T.hawk out, unlike Honda’s tools, nearly all of Dhalsim’s tools involve him extending his hitbox.

Seeing as how Sim’s normals don’t do formidable damage, it’s not a foolish strategy for T.Hawk to occasionally play a little random. imo.
Recklessly Throwing out Dps/Spires once in a while will at worst net sim an 80 damage punish,
at best net Hawk 100-200 damage + a knock down.
This random relation between Hawk and Sim is virtually non existent against Honda.

With Honda’s Jump:hp:, headbutt +buttslam
virtually impenetrable
his tools don’t share any degree of the same weakness as Dhalsim
much harder to work with, harder to get that knockdown.

maybe…

Guys, I need help with the el fuerte match. In my experience fuerte will just stay outside of hawk’s footsie range and then whiff punish stuff. I feel like i can’t keep him out because he moves around so quickly.

Also, when i knock him down with spd, he just uses his dp+k (i think it’s called guacamole throw or something) and gets out of the splash mixup. i try to meaty him and he ex runs and uses the invincibility frames of his throwing attacks and body press to avoid my attempts to stuff them. Any OS attempts get absorbed by ex run or avoided using the Guacamole throw. Hell, U2 OS on a jump-in against him flat out loses to EX Guacamole throw.

It feels like there’s no real footsies and there’s no real mixup game for hawk…i barely even feel like i’m using t.hawk and instead a punching bag. I’ve always told my friends that I feel like T.hawk is a giant chode of a character: He’s hard to get in with but when you do get in the other person really feels it, the problem is he slips out too easily. I think fuerte’s mobility just exacerbates this aspect of t.hawk.

Any advice is welcome.

Well, empty jump spd or normal throw beats ex run on knockdown, as does ex spire and condor dive (preferably x-up condor dive to avoid ex guac. Ex guac is a free out as far as i know but atleast he’s burning meter. Otherwise Fuerte suffers from the Dhalsim syndrome in that he deals damage in small chunks, go ahead and guess MP tomahawk a couple of times, it’s throw invincible and beats out all his throws and sometimes trades with other stuff. Focus attack beats his splash. I think the match is pretty even (but boring as shit), you just have to guess alot. Don’t be afraid to be random, Fuerte only has 900 health.

i know you can throw him out of run, it just seems like all i can do is just throw him, i’m scared of using spd cause he can just whiff a guac and blow me up into the guessing game. I know focus can beat the splash but he can position in it in such a way that it crosses up as well as beats dps. heaven forbid you do something random and unsafe such as trying to mp dp a run stop bait and proceed to eat RSF.

Which are the match ups in which t hawk has not problems?

Blazer, is blanka really that bad?

im re-playing hawk because of Chi-Rithy (even though its 5-5 vs cammy/fei)

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit recently. I don’t think it’s 7-3 anymore but it’s still his worst matchup IMO. No way to mix him up consistently and he gets away with nonsense. But if you get a life lead you can turtle him just as hard as he can turtle you. Hawk is a brick wall if you wanna turtle. I’m gonna see if Riceata and intehweeds wanna run FT10’s with me and then I’ll decide on how I think the matchup actually is.

What do you think about the Cammy matchup? I still haven’t played chi-rithy, hope I can run a set with him at Toryuken 2. I think Hawk/Cammy is 5-5. Whoever gets the first knockdown wins. Also, if you want tech against Cammy with Hawk check my youtube I uploaded an unblockable/OS against her.

yeah i saw your tech, good stuff a while ago and subbed.
imo the matchup is 5-5, however playing chi-rithy is super annoying, always feels like he knows what im gonna do before i do it (prob cause we`ve been playing against each other for almost 9years now, and he is more patient than me lol)

btw, im unsure what the best oki would be after a comboed ex condor spire. doesnt seem like you have lots of time to cross up with splash, suggestions?

After a comboed ex spire you have to wait and see if they tech or not. If they tech just apply pressure on the ground (make sure to os any pressure with s.hk to catch backdashes) and if they don’t tech then you can set up a splash/empty jump whatever on wakeup.

Does close HK catch backdashes? Isn’t the sweep better than close HK as OS on wakeup?

I hate just pressuring by standing on their wake up because most people always DP
