SSF4 AE 2012 Tier List Thread (OP last updated May 2014)

Took 1st?

SEAM 2013 is AFAIK the only one. However you can’t just look at “took 1st” and ignore everything else. Check out how often Adon has appeared in top 8 at majors:

Evo 2012 - Gamerbee was in grand finals took 2nd
Dreamhack 2013 - Gamerbee took 2nd
Shadowloo Showdown - Gamerbee took 2nd
Taiwan SF 25th tournament (not the Capcom Cup qualifier. The one big one) - Gamerbee took 2nd
WGC 2013 - Gamerbee took 3rd
ECT4 - Gamerbee took 3rd
VXG 2013 - Gamerbee took 3rd

Gamerbee other top 8 majors placements in AE2012:
Evo2013
CEO2012
Shadowloo Showdown 2012
SF 25th Anniversary
Winterbrawl 8

Ramen Addict - Placed top 8 at CEO2013 and Final Round 15 (2012)

Ettelman (Swedish player) - 4th at Dreamhack Summer 2013 (that is the one where Popi beat Infiltration)

That is only going by the stuff listed on here: http://rank.shoryuken.com/rankings/index?pchar=Adon

There may be plenty of other examples not catalogued.

Oni = Proof of just pick whoever the fuck you like.

Edit: nvm read it wrong

Finally a pro that put Viper where she should be in v2012.

I don’t have many problems with that list. Pretty fair.

yet you said juri is bottom mid tier. I agree with Gamerbee’s list. It seems pretty accurate

Yeah, juri is a bit high.
But I don’t know man. I don’t respect this character but I really feel it’s because no one has made me respect her yet.

Killer bee is the nickname Dictator gave to Cammy. Guess im the only SF story fanboy.

Anyways i see plenty things i think are fucked up on this tier list

Juri probably suffers the same issue dudley,E.Ryu and Oni had,No one has played them in a high level tournament yet.the only time i seen a Juri Wreck house was a japanese tournament.

Probably everyone here knows who Killerbee is. Still I thought you made some slang wordplay about GamerBee which I just wouldn’t understand.

I agree that Fei above Cammy doesn’t look right. Not for v.2012.

I could see why he is higher. Tiers list are all about what characters can be on paper, and you can argue that Fei Long is a better character overall than both Gouki and Cammy.
Within real matches tho, the vortex power of both characters make it look less like that.

In a world where people can block vortex perfectly, Fei is definitely the best character out of the 3.

He also thinks adon beats cody by a considerable margin.

Lol that and fei long were the only matchups I thought cody had the advantage. Poor cody.

the cody one stood out to me. like really? i know st rh is a pain for cody but zonk vs jag kicks

I could see 5/5 or 5/4.5 for adon at best as im sure he has played some sick codys so my opinion is prolly moot.

He may just know how to play the match-up properly as an adon. i cant belive he says adons favor but im sure he has played top codys before so idk what to say outside of theory fighting.

At the same time most e ryu players said fei was a bad matchup then sako said e ryu had an advantage unless the fei was on point so eh… matchup charts/list should be taken with a grain of…

[Tier level] + [+ or - 1 level]

Plus people still dont know all their matchups…

Evil ryu cl/cr hp xx mk axe kick is blindly reversalble by some and reversable on reaction by others as its super negative. Last night the ken player chrisg played let him get away with so many unsafe fierce xx ake kick cancels when he couild dp after seeing a fierce or ultra them on reaction to a cancel.

vs cody (as rarley as it happens) people let lp CU slide so much and sometimes even miss HP CU punishes

and watching people vs smug they just let him bully them with moves that are unsafe or negative.

Im sure there is mores stuff that people notice with their own chars that i dont that makes them “WTF?”

So much stuff to be learned and we got a new version with even more chars lol

Yeah I’m he has played momochi, so I dunno. He obviously has the argument of authority over everyone here.

And that E. Ryu point is particularly funny, because everyone could/should just do ultra or invincible reversal after a cr.mk since the fireball is always a true blockstring and you’ll bust the axe kick. Some characters the axe kick stuffs the reversal though.

SF has a story? I should seriously flag you for trolling.

Is his hitbox still far enough out though to be hit by a bog standard DP? cl.hp is pretty much always going to be in your face, but I’d think that cr.mk might leave him far enough away

cr mk requires a reaction to a cancel as cr mk is only -4 on block and if its spaced or you dont have a 4 frame ultra your fucked if its not canceled. Plus lk axe is -7 on block or something close so ikd why someone would ever just “toss a lk axe kick out” unless its a counter poke/anti walk forward poke that you expect to wiff unless your opponent walks into it as it’s pretty fucked on block (but people still let it slide). plus if buffs stick its gonna be a true string into hado anyway at all ranges im pretty sure with the +1 to blockstun.

However cr fp/cl fp xx mk axe kick that go unpunished by high level players really grind my gears lol that shit is -10 or -7 respectively without a cancel and punishable by anything invincible on reaction to a cancel. In general you are pretty close when those moves get blocked so its easily punished for some and reactable for others. The only way he can save himself is xx Hadoken as that is a true string so…
No Cancel = reversal that has 7 or 10 frames start up depending on the move and invincibility and range = bodied E ryu
Cancel = Bodied with an invincible reversal

I’ll be honest, I use cr. Mk into light axe kick because I almost always get away with it. And I’ll continue doing it until people prove to me that they can punish it.

As far as people reversal’ing it, well just space your cr. mk out of dp range and bait people if they’re reacting to that normal only. And just replace cl. hp with cl. mp instead because cl. mp into mk axe kick is a true block string.

According to the SRK front page the tier list is ordered purely on the vertical not on horizontal so everyone in one row is listed as being equal.

E.G.

Fei Long = tier 1
Cammy, Akuma = tier 2
Adon, Yun, Oni, Sakura, Evil Ryu, Ibuki = Tier 3
Seth, Sagat, Viper, Gen, Makoto, Bison, Ryu, Ken, Balrog, Juri = tier 4
Rufus, Rose, Yang, Guile, Gouken, Dudley, Guy, Cody, Vega = Tier 6 (given the large gap)
Abel, Blanka, Thawk, El Fuerte, Chun Li, E Honda, Zangief, Dhalsim, Hakan = tier 8 (given the large gap)
Dan, Deejay = tier 12 lol

That is how it reads to me. All characters in the same row = equally viable.

Personally I disagree with Zangief, Abel, Hakan, Guile, Rose and Rufus. I think they are all too low. Abel/Hakan should be tier 6. Rufus, Rose, Guile and Zangief should be the entirety of tier 5

I think Oni and Evil Ryu are good, but better than Seth, Viper and maybe Makoto? Yun top 5? what?

Deejay beats Adon 6-4. I haven’t played the match much myself but Kurokida has written about it and Freejay made a video. That was year ago, idk what they think about the match up now.
