The irony about this is that Rufus has arguably the easiest to land ultra in the game, and it doesn’t require any super meter. Did we simply decide to lay that to rest, or is it because we didn’t see J. Wong doing it again and again until he placed first?

I’d like to think they can be more creative in giving characters viable strategies for winning than relying on everyone having some sort of DP FADC whenever they’re in trouble or having a very easy to land ultra for big damage.

That’s a good question Nevermore. Gen should be left alone. As for Rufus, I think his U1 is getting nerfed and U2 getting buffed in Ultra. His Ultra choices are ridiculous. Dive kick into Ultra with a hit confirm series that lasts for an entire episode of Friends.

If we are complaining about ultras, there is a lot of BS stuff. Why pick on an old man?

Thanks to Rufus’ ultra I get WAY more reading done.

I think Rufus and viper both do too much on their ultras as well.

But Gen was the character in question.

Comeon now man, I HATE Viper, I mean I REALLY do with a passion, but even I think the v2012 Ultra one damage nerf was enough and can see it every time she uses her ultra, nerfing it more is just unnecessary.

Because he’s not supposed to win.

Winning is not fair!

Do not forget his JF.HK or his F.HK, they can also lead to an Ultra or even things like Galatic Tornado in the corner lol. Of course EX Messiah with 3 meter.

Yes, I know Gen was the character in question. The problem is, people are focusing on “super > ultra is bullshit” as though it’s exclusive to Gen. Okay, so maybe he has the easiest time landing super > ultra, yet he definitely doesn’t have the easiest time landing an ultra at all, and a character like Rufus is arguably braindead to play compared to what most Gen players have to do to get their “non super > ultra” damage in.

All of this bitching has been over easy comeback mechanics in general. Many characters have them, and it’s pointless to act as though a single character dominates in that area. Nobody would be opening their mouth about Gen if Xian hadn’t even made top 8. No one.

Another thing is that you don’t win a match from landing a single super > ultra. You have to win the other round too, and many characters can beat Gen well before he has four bars again in a single round. Most of these miracle comebacks happen in the second (if he won the first) or third (if he won the second) rounds.

IF you want to talk about Ultra bullshit just think of the characters who land an ultra almost all the time. In fact, think of those for whom using the Ultra is practically an inevitability:

Rufus, Viper, Ryu, Sagat, Adon, Balrog, and Sakura

Of these, Rufus and Balrog are absolute fucking guarantees.

First of all, this isn’t the first time Xian has made top 8 at a major tournament. Ever since he’s picked up Gen, his results have been amazing because he’s worked very hard with the character and has made an effort to learn everything about Gen.

Second of all, it’s not bitching that “Gen is OP.” It’s more about addressing the fact that Gen as a character is not as bad as everyone thinks. I’m sick and tired of everyone talking about Gen like he’s some incredibly difficult character who has to work so hard to win every match. I personally have Gen right outside Top 10 (if not, possible Top 10) because I know how strong the character is. I’ve played Xian while I was in Singapore and I’ve played Dakou’s Gen (Dakou has probably been playing Gen longer than Xian has). I remember calling Gen a vortex character early in AE2012’s life and people telling me that he’s not a vortex character.

Last match is Amiyu vs Wao

You cannot possibly watch these matches and not see the same 50/50 left/right mixups that you see Cammy/Akuma/whoever use in their oki. Gen without meter is NOT a bad character. Gen has amazing footsies, one of the best focus attacks in the game, a great kara throw, safe strings after his 50/50 left/right mixup, etc. You can’t just look at Gekiro as his only wakeup option as well; high level Gen players will almost always choose to focus backdash/backdash rather than do wakeup Gekiro. Watch Xian play against PR Rog and tell me how many times you see Xian backdash on wakeup because he knows it’s a good option (and PR Rog knows too because he starts doing TAP on Xian’s wakeup and connects into U1 to punish Xian’s constant backdashing).

I personally think all this talk is just inexperience against high level Gen players in general. You tell me how it feels when a high level Gen player is up 1-0 on you and has full super stocked in the next round. The moment you get touched by anything, you’re looking at 50% health gone into hard knockdown from HK Gekiro (which obviously leads into his 50/50 mixup afterwards).

I’ve defended the Cammy players on here, but if a Cammy player is ‘bitchin’ about Gen, I really don’t know what to say.

as far as sagat goes and i know im late but…

Is it too much to ask that my char be effective AND fun.

The nerfs to my char not only made him weaker, they made him BORING at a high level.

I think we can all agree. Not cool Capcom. Not cool.

also wtf…ShinAkuma204…yes sagat loses the neutral game vs Gouki. same in all his bad matches. Unless you have some new definition of neutral game.

On CU I suggested giving him back his low tiger shot recovery, vanilla s.lk and fix corner Ultra glitch.

I really think at least s.lk and the ultra will be fixed, won’t that be good enough? Or you think Tiger Knees should be better just not Vanilla good?

I still maintain Sagat got overnerfed coming out of Vanilla. I would like to see him get a little bit of it back.

Who’s bitching? Warlike asked a question. Illitirit and I answered. If we are going to dip back into another internet hyperbole battle, I’ll drop the discussion here.

I don’t know

Let’s focus on arguably the only two people in the entire world who play Gen at that level now and act like it’s a representation of the character in general. That’s come fantastic logic. It’s probably just Gen though. It’s not like if Xian or Amiyu decided to be character specialists with at least half of the other cast that they would make that character look better than what they actually are. And no shit most Gen players would prefer to use focus or backdash. Guess what though? The entire cast can do that too. Preferring to use arguably the only viable option aside from blocking doesn’t mean Gen’s wakeup doesn’t royally suck.

You know what’s the real kicker about Evo though? I knew that if Tokido and Infiltration played, Tokido would win. Yet, if Infiltration played Xian again, he would have probably beaten him (again). We won’t ever know for sure, but more than likely had Infiltration made it to the grand finals, he would have won again. Tokido lost from inexperience.
