SRK Newbie Saikyo Dojo Arcade Stick FAQ (Read this before asking questions)

Hello, I have 3 questions regarding arcade sticks:

    1. firmare update: should I worry about them ? (on ps3) I read several reviews on amazon from people who said that after firmare 3.5 update for ps3, their AS were made obsolete, they couldn’t play online anymore. That made me worry, I want to buy an AS for ps3 to play online, I’m considering something good, madcatz or hori - but should I worry about a firmare update that might render my arcade obsolete ?
    1. I am interested if I can make the stick work for the Xbox 360 too - there are any converters ? I know there is an answer of this on the front page, but the link attached doesn’t work anymore. Thank you.
    1. I found this hori stick: Hori Officially Licensed Real Arcade Pro V3 SA http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hori-Officially-Licensed-Real-Arcade/dp/B004TECRGS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1311668193&sr=8-2
Since it’s new, it is not covered in most of the reviews for arcade sticks, so what do you think, is it good ? - aren’t the buttons too close to the stick ?
Is this hori good or should I the Madcatz TE ? - is a little more expensive.

If I am used to the standard MvC2 arcade stick controls, what custom settings should I put for MvC3?

This is my major disadvantage when I play online or H2H. I can’t find a good button configuration like MvC2.

Ps3 user here.

  1. No need to worry about firmware updates on PS3.
  2. I dont know of any converters worth mentioning. Most folks get their sticks dual modded. There are parts you can install in the stick to add support for other consoles, but its always easier to start with a 360 stick and add in PS3 and other support than it is to start with a PS3 stick and add in 360. There are also techs who willing to do the mod for you.
  3. The HRAP VX or HRAP V3 are good sticks, buttons are not too close to the stick. The TEs are well known and there are more third party parts available for modding; that is it’s major advantage. The Hori’s have slightly better electronics in them (No PC chipset compatability issues like the PS3 TE has, no trigger problems like the 360 TE has.) Both are good choices, with the TEs being easier to mod, and the Horis having less electronic issues out of the box.

If I were you, I’d keep an eye on the trading outlet section of SRK, and look to buy a dual modded stick, or check out the threads of folks who do stick mods so you can talk to them and get their advice on the best way to end up with a dual modded stick.

You can set the button config to however you like; closest to MvC2 layout would be:
L H A1
M S A2

But frankly, I dont see that its worth it. I tried that layout for a while, and wasnt able to make it work for me. I’d recommend just sticking with the ‘official’ layout and just training on it until you’re solid.

S A1 A2

what’s the verdict on mayflash universal sticks?

it’s been asked several times in this thread, but i didn’t see an answer

My verdict is that if you don’t plan on modding it, don’t bother. The stock buttons use rubber dome switches that are quite bad, and while the joystick uses actual Omron switches it is also very loose with a large deadzone.

I would only recommend the Mayflash if you absolutely want a PS3/PC + PS2 stick and you are not against modding it with better parts with some dremeling and soldering/desoldering. Otherwise, if you want a low-end entry-level stick that is easy to mod, then get a Mad Catz SE/Brawl stick.

I’m 6’6 and have pretty large hands and the only real way i can find to hold the stick that’s comfortable is with my thumb and middle finger on the outside and my index finger on top of the ball, but i notice my range of motion and accuracy when doing moves can be limited or stifled. I’ve looked at videos of people demonstrating how to hold the stick in different ways for fluid motions and have tried those, but they all have much smaller hands than me and just don’t seem to work for me, either due to lack of comfort or just not being able have enough space to actually move the stick without the friction from my palm getting in the way.

Anyone else had this problem and found a good solution?

I’ve heard of people solving this problem by upgrading their ball top from the standard 35mm to a 45mm.

I don’t have the same issue, but I’d suggest getting a shaft extention or trying a bat top. Either one would give you more room for your hand.

Is there any good unknown company for stick ?? so I can get a good quality stick for cheap ??

I already have a TE, just wanted a cheap second stick that’s compatible w/ ps2. I don’t have to time to mod so Imma pass.

modding questions = tech talk

I tried that after Starcade RIP, however, no one seems to bite.

Where would be the cheapest place to buy a TE stick?

After using pad for fighting games for 10 or so years, I made the switch to an arcade stick. After two hours using it, I could basically do everything consistently except for two major things: dashing and (mostly)double fireball motion. I wouldn’t get it after 4 hours and I wouldn’t get it after 4 days of numerous attempts.

The only way I can get it 5 times in a row is by doing it pretty slow, but when I try to speed it up, my inputs are like this …
:d::f: :df::f:

Dashing and nailing a double-fireball motion super the moment I’m out of the dash animation is pretty much impossible for me.

As for dashing, I’m not used to twitching my hand/thumb left or right for a dash. That will probably take some time.

I’ve been using it for almost 2 weeks now and can’t even do a chain into a super cancel. I’m not sure if I need more time practicing, if I should try to get a stick that has an octagonal gate, or if arcade sticks aren’t my thing.

Are TE sticks sensitive to cold air?

Hello im new and i dont know if this has been asked but anyone know a webstore where you can get madcatz te sticks in europe?

Try the internets. jk

most stores will ship internationally Let Me Google That For You http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=mad+catz+te&safe=active&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=17803706734786961826&sa=X&ei=N196TsDJJMbhiALv25TDDw&ved=0CCwQ8wIwAA

Also I’m Building my first stick all happ everything for that american coin op feeling, building a box from scratch thanks to slagcoin and waiting on my chutlu from lizard lick. wish me luck!

Errr probably not? I have no idea on how the basic electronics and mechanics in the stick would degrade over time in cold air compared to any other climate, but unless you are keeping it in a freezer I think you don’t have to worry about it…

thehut.com is uk based but Im not sure about other site as this is where I got mine from.
