Okay Spongebob Chinapants.
Man, I totally didn’t even see this until just now. Yeah, sign me up, kaz.
SajiNori’s having internet issues so he doesn’t want to sign up and not be able to play and get DQ’d.
@Manx doesn’t want to play?
Is there still a spot open @kaz ? If so, please sign me up, I will make some time to play.
Got it.
SajiNori’s having internet issues so he doesn’t want to sign up and not be able to play and get DQ’d.
@Manx doesn’t want to play?
Manx isn’t playing this one.
I’m going to close signups tomorrow around 9PM EST.
If there’s anyone else wanting to play sign up before then. I’ll PM roles early Saturday and if anyone has questions please respond to the PMs before the game starts. I’m looking to start on Sunday. When the game thread goes up I’ll clear up voting and how long phases will last etc.
@kaz, I’m flying to Seoul on Monday at 10AM CST, won’t arrive until around 4AM CST Tuesday morning.
Can I put in some early actions if I have to just to not risk being DQ’d for inactivity? If I get mafia, can someone submit my night actions for me?

Yeah, we’ll figure something out…
Missing Person: Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m here in the pre-game with an interview with DarkGeneral. DG, you’ve shown up just recently, and seem to have become a perennial target for night kills? What do you think that says about your civilian play in this game?
DarkGeneral: Oh that’s a good question. I believe in the last 2 games I played I was targeted by people with night actions. In one case, the monsters game i believe I was playing a pretty strong civ game which lead to one of the factions trying to recruit me so that I could be a sleeper agent. But in the last game I seemed to have ruffled a couple of feathers. Both civ and mafia alike.
DarkGeneral: Particularly I think the message I sent was that I’m an intriguing prospect whether civ or mafia, as far as last game , the end of the world game is concerned.
DarkGeneral: I’m not sure if it was indicitive of my civ play or my general playstyle.
DarkGeneral: To a point I’m not really sure how other players view me. I’m not sure if I’m overrated, underrated, not rated, sneaky, boastful, alienating or anything
DarkGeneral: I kind of just play. If that makes sense? Does that even answer your question?
Missing Person: That does actually. Seeing how you’ve generally only been killed at night, how would you feel should you ever face a lynch, both as a mafia and as a civ?
DarkGeneral: Hmm. Another good question. Up to this point I haven’t worried about being lynched because I’ve started out as a roleless civ in all bout 1 of the games I’ve played. Lynching as a concept is something that I look at to gauge the ebb and flow of the game. The weight of a lynch is variable depending on roles, size of the game and specially who is playing. This is a little outside of the scope of the question you asked but the lynches are by and large controlled by the alpha and beta type personalities that play.
DarkGeneral: Well, I guess that last statement tips off how I think about the game. I tend to classify players by alpha, beta and gamma types. Each “type” have their own variables and styles of play and other things that I take into consideration.
DarkGeneral: To swing that back around to the original question if I’m a roled civ and I’m trying not to tip anyone off that I had a role WHILE trying to avoid the lynch I’d look at the established ebb and flow. Who remaining are more than likely to lead the proceedings on todays lynch? Am I one of his suspects? If not, and I think he’s a civ, I might team up with his opinion to stave off the lynch wagon. But if I’m feeling confident in my own read I might try leading the wagon on one of my suspects. That way i’d appear roleless. But even then both of those possible answers to being lynched aren’t very strong options in themselves. It really depends on the context of the game. Is it early? Is it late? Mid game? Confirmed civ? Is vigi alive? There’s so many factors to consider. I think my final answer would have to be “Depends on how the game is playing out”.
DarkGeneral: Am I even making sense?
Missing Person: Yeah, totally making sense
Missing Person: Actually, you bring up an interesting point with alpha and beta styles. Two questions that come to mind with that, do you believe that the beta styles contribute more than what people assume to the game, and why?
DarkGeneral: Oh, absolutely. I think beta types. Well the people I might classify as “beta type” are severely underrated. I mean severely. I love WTF-Akuma-HAX. I really do, that dude is awesome. I mean no harm when I say I classify him as a “beta type”. But think back to the monster game. He started off as a vampire and was riding WAY WAY WAY under the radar. I mean, let’s be honest he got exposed somewhat on a fluke play. C_K played as a second vigilate and basically was killing off civs to stop them from turning. He hit Hax with the truth serum that would kill a normal civ, yet hax lived. Now at the point in the game, in my pov it seemed like people were bought the idea that Hax was bitten.
DarkGeneral: But lets look a little deeper at the “why” aspect. Hax, largely to his credit is an incredibly insightful player. He catches stuff and posts stuff in the thread that most people either miss or don’t bring up. Plus he’s always contributing. He’s always drumming up discussion and things of that nature. Now it’s a foregone conclusion that most people are afraid of Hax being mafia, why? Because we believe he’d be hard to read due to how he posts on the forums.
DarkGeneral: Now let’s look at this delicious piece of meta, Hax was able to use that to his advantage and get a little bit of a free pass. Everyone thought that hax being recruited would be a “logical” move for one of the monster factions
DarkGeneral: Even though he was a starter vampire. Him even being found out was a pure fluke. Vampires could have, and would have made a bigger wave if not for that one play on C_K’s part. But credit is due to C_K. He did have HAx on his radar, for one reason or another.
Missing Person: I was totally in that group. What was it about HAX that kept him believable as a civ for so long in that game, do you think?
DarkGeneral: Hmmm.
DarkGeneral: I think on a instinctual or a even an intellectual level I think we all realize that Hax is a very useful and intriguing member in these mafia games.
DarkGeneral: He might not try to push the lynch wagon but he gets people looking in directions and talking about certain things that is valuable.
DarkGeneral: Also on another level I think we all might doubt ourselves. I know I’m the interviewee but how many times a game, as a civ do you ask yourself "am I being too paranoid here?"
Missing Person: I definitely do that a few times a game. The Marvel game where Vynce and I went in on each other set it off in my head while it was going on.
DarkGeneral: Exactly. That little thought is enough to save/kill a fellow civ or a mafia.
DarkGeneral: I think on some level we all had that thought about Hax being an original vamp. “Am I being too paranoid? Is the fear of hax being mafia the driving force behind this decision?” I think that line of thought combined with other factors that I’ve mentioned, and haven’t mentioned lead most of us to believe Hax. He’s a good player, very useful, intelligent, eccentric and potentially very dangerous.
DarkGeneral: And he’s what I would consider a “beta” type. That’s just one example. There are other players that I classify as “beta types” that match somewhat of a similar profile.
DarkGeneral: A lot of people that I classify as “beta” are strong to very very strong players in my mind. Whether they receive praise or not those guys are big components to mafia games.
Missing Person: Awesome.
Missing Person: Now another thing that you did bring up goes straight up Marvel on us, and that was Gamma players. What would classify a player as a Gamma player in your mind?
DarkGeneral: I classify most wallflowers as gammas.
DarkGeneral: Wallflowers are… Precarious.
DarkGeneral: They can be insightful or useful yet we never fully know what they are capable of. Are they there for self preservation? Are they scheming? Are they overlooking the game and taking notes but are sitting back tight lipped? Or are they busy.
DarkGeneral: A funny thing about wallflowers in the games I’ve been playing is that they have been surviving for longer than what I expect. Day 1 is always the same “Lynch a wallflower” but what happens after that? The night phase. Real information. That’s where a lot of players start going to work and trying to figure out what’s happening in the game. Yet flowers, gammas, remain under the radar.
DarkGeneral: Sometimes they get their petals clipped by the vigi, sometimes they are hunted by the mafia and on occasion they get lynched.
Missing Person: So do you think that the survivability of a Gamma increases if they survive Day 1? And if so, do you think that’s beneficial to the civs or mafia?
DarkGeneral: Hmm. That question is mostly predicated on who is playing the game and who got which roles. Some players if they were the vigi would ignore the wallflowers in favor of other reads. Some people if they’re mafia they might crack one of the wallflowers to get a read on them if they have a role. Hell there are some people that just want to persue the flowers no matter what.
DarkGeneral: By and large I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that they’re more helpful to civs or mafia. It depends on how the people with night kills want to play the game. Also, it seems that there aren’t many traditional wallflowers anymore.
DarkGeneral: I think as I’ve played more I started to classify more people by hybrid playstyles. For instance SumAZNdude isn’t someone I’d consider a gamma even though he skews as a flower.
DarkGeneral: But yeah, I think it depends on how the playstyles come together in a game. Some mafia players might use the flowers to their advantage more than others.
DarkGeneral: Going back to SumAZNdude as an example, even though I don’t technically classify him as a wallflower, he has bit the mafia in the ass twice in a row.
DarkGeneral: Both times he had a prominent role. Both times mafia missed out on taking out a valuable civ role.
DarkGeneral: Compared that to the Danganronpa game where he was the media, and played similarly and died within the first 2 nights.
Missing Person: Right, that’s an interesting way to classify everybody.
DarkGeneral: It’s a bit of a different take on our classical social norm of “Alpha, Beta, Gamma”.
Missing Person: So, technically, you haven’t been dealt a mafia role since you started playing. Have you been strategizing for the time you do get dealt mafia, or are you just prepared to wing it when it happens?
DarkGeneral: Come on now MP, you know I can’t answer that question.
Missing Person: Always figured I could eek out a little bit.
Missing Person: Which would you rather play in a game though, mafia or civ?
DarkGeneral: Civ. I have a perpetually hard on for busting the mafias ass. i much prefer the mystery of not knowing who is an ally and who is the enemy. I love that mystery, I love whodunit’s and stuff like that. Actually when I was a little kid I always wanted to be the cop in cops and robbers.
Missing Person: Awesome. Now in the FGC game, you had to step in on the interim as a co-GM. How did you feel about that role, and would you consider running a game yourself at some point?
DarkGeneral: That was an interesting experience. I really wasn’t ready for it and I thought the job would be bigger (and it was but luckily I had excellent partners). It was pretty interesting seeing things unfold as they happen, it’s a huge difference from reading chat logs after the game. After that experience I’d say being a GM makes you understand the game, and players better.
DarkGeneral: As for running a game I’m actually planning to run one sometime this year. If my schedule permits such an undertaking. As for the theme? I’ll give out a hint: Bizarre.
Missing Person: More bizarre than SRK vs. EOW?
DarkGeneral: In some ways yes. In other ways, no. I don’t think there will be any hedgehogs in my game.
Missing Person: Okay, close to wrapping this up. Who would you consider to be the 5 best at this point in time in this game?
DarkGeneral: I knew this question was coming from the moment I signed up. So I’ll answer this as honestly as I possibly can.
DarkGeneral: 1: Ben Perkins, 2: Drunk Manx 3 minutes before dinner, 3: BtierBison aka The manhunters gimp, 4: The martian Manhunter, 5: Myself
DarkGeneral: I think that list is pretty darn accurate.
DarkGeneral: Who do you think is the top 5 players currently?
Missing Person: That’s quite the list, I’m definitely going to have to figure out a way to get all of them in my next one.
DarkGeneral: That game would be spectacular. Imagine all of them being mafia?
Missing Person: That question…will have to wait until I get randomly selected for the interview!
Missing Person: Thank you so much for your time for this interview.
DarkGeneral: Hahaha, no problem. Any other questions?
Missing Person: I think we’re good.
DarkGeneral: Ah, well as an aside I have myself classified as beta!
Missing Person: +Insightful
DarkGeneral: Also as some more parting words
DarkGeneral: I’ve been lurking since the South Park game. I almost signed up for the game but I decided to lurk. Since then the game has evolved by leaps and bounds. Recently from top to bottom the games have been stacked with talent. 90 percent of the wallflowers are interesting, strong players when giving the time to shine in their own way. The underrated players have been putting in massive amounts of work and responsibility and the alphas have kept these games fun as heck.
DarkGeneral: The all star game is going to be incredibly difficult to get into next go round. I wouldn’t be surprised if almost everyone got 1 vote to get voted in, if that’s the route that it takes. I mean seriously the level of play have been astounding. Though the mafia have been getting rocked I still think they have played strong games. I think them losing has been in part due to game balance and in part thanks to the level of strong civ play.
DarkGeneral: With that said. The mix of personalities make these games fun as fuck. I may use alpha, beta and gamma to categorize players but it’s the social dynamics between our players that make the mafia games a siren song to me.
DarkGeneral: Like most things in life it’s that game harmony that intrigues me and kees me coming back. And again I mean no disrepect by placing a “gamma” assist tag on players. Most of them, or at least in recent times, most flowers have brought a dynamic that goes beyond just checking in and voting.
DarkGeneral: With that said. I guess this is over? Any parting words MP?
Missing Person: I have to give a shoutout to everyone that’s played, that’s enjoyed these games, and just made these games so hype that I’ve had to keep coming back to them. With all that said, Lynch RadicalFuzz.
DarkGeneral: +lol
Oh, do one for me!
Please tell me that you sent DG a question, then he’d respond, and that you didn’t actually Skype and then write all that down after recording it.
Also, dibs on Pet Shop. ;D
Oh, do me, too!
And let AC write about it.
not in italics

Please tell me that you sent DG a question, then he’d respond, and that you didn’t actually Skype and then write all that down after recording it.
I really hope DG didn’t say “+lol”
Lol nice interview. Sign me up for one in the future

Can I at least get a “Satsui no Hado” pill? That’d be way cooler, and significantly more canon.
Three stars, baby.
SAD watch out, I’m gunning for you.
Beta Type Commando is wayyy better than Alpha Type Commando. BTW. Provided those links to the SRK MVC2 wiki and everything before as needed.

Nope. Not until you play plenty of 3rd Strike Ryu vs Gouki and read their Manga 2 book series. RYU FINAL
