Shining Force II was buff. Shining Force 3 was a bit too easy, but I liked it a lot. Only played the first scenario, though.
The thing about Shining Force is that the character designs went from being sort of standard fantasy/adventure stuff, (ie. Record of Lodoss War) which I either liked, or didn’t have a problem with.

It may be nostalgia but I remember SF1 (Genesis) having the most serious/darkest story. People getting killed/sacrificing themselves, the zombie breakout, just about anything related Runefaust and there actions throughout the game etc.
SF2 was pretty good and it improved on a lot of key areas overall, but it’s sooooo god damn long. I played in the 90’s an since then I’ve only beaten it twice while I’ve played and finished SF1 at least 200 times by now. My latest run through was with an All Star team - Zylo, Musashi, Guntz, Bleu, Lyle, Mae, Gong, Balbaroy, Pelle, Kokichi & Domingo. Needless to say they demolished absolutely everything (excluding chimeras) Dark Dragon’s theme didn’t even have enough time to loop.
I never understood why digital version of newer games cost as much as their disc counterpart…
