I had slight crushes on my cousins when I was little before I understood what a cousin was.
They also lived a state away, so there is only a very small familial bond since they never visit. I feel that’s actually a larger part of the incest taboo is the early childhood closeness of the relatives, since mutations don’t happen everytime an incest child is born, it’s just more likely to happen.
More about the family social structure then biological repercussions IMO.
