Sure, in a world where dogs were bred for food, and not as pets, then people would be ok with eating them. however, a lot of people would still be for the humane treatment of them. that was my point. actively torturing animals bred as pets is worse than eating animals bred as food. the former would be done solely to derive a sick pleasure out of it, the latter is just part of life. and as for farmers saving livestock … there are people who raise pigs as pets, and i wouldn’t be surprised if they valued them over humans. its all about what purpose the animal is used for.
Regarding dogs being innocent and defenseless, yes, i meant not deserving of suffering. Typo. Re being defenseless, even a pit bull cannot take on a well equipped human like you said. The crux of the matter here is the strong abusing the weak for fun. Eating an animal is a matter of sustenance. Torturing it? There’s no reason for that. We should seek to minimize their suffering.
No I do not think the average person is a serial killer. I even stated earlier that I would save a stranger over a dog. Even though I do believe there are lots of terrible people in this world. I was just using a serial killer as an extreme example, to illustrate in many cases, a dog is worth way more than a human. Its not so black and white. I think a lot of people value human life more because humans are more intelligent (not saying that’s what you think btw). However, if a hypothetical advanced alien race came along and harvested us for food, the intelligence argument wouldn’t really hold much water for us anymore.
That is a good point. The large number of veterans who suffer from psychological disorders is evidence of that. Still, I think there is a difference between enjoying it and just doing your job, albeit there may not be a giant difference. Any time you kill any kind of sentient animal that can experience pain, I believe its the morally right thing to do to minimize its suffering. Anyone who goes out of their way to maximize their victims suffering has a lot of serious issues.

Gouki’s theme music triggers reactions in my brain that it really shouldn’t. Sexual reactions. If I were to play that game at all, Gouki players would be my Kryptonite because his theme music makes me lose focus, blush, and occasionally salivate. Something about that particular collection of sounds is just erotic to me. It has nothing to do with the actual character.
