Playing Starcraft is like trying to do 20 different things all at the same time, how well you can multi-task is pretty much the type of execution that’s required by Starcraft. The strategy side of thing comes into play because you have no idea what your opponent is doing and so you need to “scout” them to find out, only then can you develop a counter-strategy.
Most of the well-known names in SC2 simply carried over their fame from SC1. Getting well-known in SC2 is just like getting well-known in any other thing, just be godlike and people will start to notice and talk about you. Even a no-name random can get their own name out there if they cause a big enough stir by beating a top tier player or w/e.
You know I agree with you, but the worst is having some parents drop by your house for a visit and their kids don’t have respect for the people’s house they’re visiting. So what happens is the kids are running rampant in your house, jumping all over the furniture, running in and out of rooms they have no business being in, while the parents say, “Come here Timmy, you know you’re not supposed to run all over the house like that.” But this sort of thing happens because they indeed don’t know that it’s not ok to run all over someone’s house when you’re a visitor because they get away with it at home. And what pisses me off more is that the parents won’t snatch the kid up and get them to stop, but insists on talking to them like it’s going to make a difference – until something gets broken. Then you have a problem on your hands…

it’s like any competitive game, really. Execution (or actions per minute, APM) is important, but it isn’t everything. I dunno how relevant online rankings are in Street Fighter, but in Starcraft they’re a pretty reliable gauge of who the top players are. You have to be pretty damn good to make it in to the Grand Master league.
As for the no LAN play, it’s not really an issue. Battle.net is like a million times better than PSN.
Google is doing some suspect stuff, after signing up with gmail for one day, they claim “suspicious activity” and now require my phone number for email verification with no alternative. I don’t like this idea at all.
Sure they claim they don’t use or give out personal info but I can’t trust their efforts.
