A game that’s entirely different from the originals shouldn’t have been made as a sequel/spiritual successor. DmC should have been its own game with a different name.
A new game in a series, whether it’s a prequel/sequel/reboot/whatever will always be compared to other entries in the series, regardless.
-Street Fighter IV. Once I started comparing it to my experiences with other SF entries, I dropped it. While on its own it’s an alright game, I started to compare it to its far superior predecessors and then I realized how much of a piece of shit it was in comparison.
-Diablo III. Really fun game on its own, but then when you compare to Diablo II, you realize it’s a piece of shit in comparison.
-Quake 4. Alright game, but it was from different developers of the first 3, and was no where near as good as the first 3 in comparison.
-DmC. “Spiritual successor” to the DMC series. Maybe an alright game on its own(lol) but when compared to other games in the series, it’s a piece of shit.
Ninja Gaiden III: This is more personal than others, because I’m playing it right now and I bought it going in knowing it was supposedly shit off the bat. Crazy thing is that it’s really fun, but the more I compare to NG1 and 2, the less I enjoy it because of how far the gameplay has fallen in comparison to those games. There are other aspects they fucked up too, but gameplay is always the main thing, and they fucked up. If I were to play DmC, I’d probably enjoy it to an extent–until I started comparing to the other 4 in the series. Then, I’d probably drop it so I could go back to other, more fun and enjoyable games in the series with more depth. I almost did with NGIII the other day, but I plan to play it through. There’s some NG1/2 greatness in there, among the large piles of shit.
TLDR: I’m about to smoke. When I first started smoking again last week, shit would drain the hell out of me physically and mentally. My body couldn’t hang anymore, but I’ve smoked enough again to get it back into shape for the cancerous punishment.
