Its bad when it comes to publishing becasue somebody is always working on something you have, and its bad when something as minor as a grammatical error can invalidate legitimate research papers.

Publishing, hell even working in a lab can be a cutthroat environment. More established scientists may try to fuck you over by politely and gently pushing you to publish something you’ve been working on so it can be open access. You then don’t own shit. Or having a cohort or mentor telling you of a horror story about someone fucking with their lab journal.

Or the types of comments and questions that’s hurled at you during conferences by real life intellectual trolls. STEM field is definitely not all sunshine and raindrops. *

This shit is so fucked up. There’s a video on FB from today of the victim’s girlfriend who was there, talking in a crowd about what happened, and how fucked up the whole situation is. It’s very emotionally charged and will make you angry and sad. I can’t find a link to the video (it might actually be in the one Rock posted) but it’s worth watching if you want to get angry. I know this happens a lot with police shootings, but this time it really got to me. Maybe because it’s in the news twice in two days. Fucking hell, man. FUCK the police.

Woman Who Live-Streamed Boyfriend's Shooting Speaks Out

A grief-stricken Diamond Reynolds spoke to a crowd in front of the Minnesota Governor’s Residence in St. Paul this morning.

After shooting her boyfriend, Reynolds said, the officer was crying and yelled, “F—, oh, my God. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it.”

Reynolds continued to live-stream for several minutes, even as officers asked her to step out of the car and sit in the back of a police vehicle. She credited her calmness to her 4-year-old daughter.

“My daughter was my lifeline,” she told the crowd outside the governor’s mansion. “My daughter told me to stay strong, and that’s what I had to do. My daughter told me, ‘Don’t cry,’ and that’s what I had to do.”

Reynolds said police detained her and her daughter at the police precinct in Falcon Heights until early this morning. She said the officers seized her cellphone and groceries from the car.

“They separated my daughter from me. They didn’t feed us, and they tried to place the blame like it was something we did,” she said. “I was not released until 5 o’clock this morning, when I arrived at my house with two squad cars.”

Good thing she stayed calm with her daughter in the car while having a gun pointed at her after being told not to move. Man too bad that made her sound “fake as fuck” amirite guys?
