Puyo Puyo, that’s one I’m forgettin’. Never got into 'em much myself, but I’ll give 'em credit for solid competitive titles.
Even GM3 has the same stupid ass comeback mechanic though, but it’s mitigated a bit by the fact that it’s got a lot of other meaner shit in play. Almost to the point where “why even bother with the attack rows at all?” as the shit never comes into play. Every time it does though, it’s a total swing to the other side. Dumb as hell.
Isn’t Magical Drop pretty much just Bust-A-Move? I don’t recall that much in BAM in terms of deep competition. IIRC, it sped up the rows on the other side for a moment and that was about it.
The thing about your comeback is that being faster will always fuck your opponent over more than that. If I get attacked and spend my time clearing for double Tetris, my opponent probably just did the same AND killed me cause he moved faster.
Also Tetris would be over extremely fast if the holes wern’t randomized.
Also Magical Drop is way different from Bust A Move.

No. Tetris. GM3 even has it. It’s a thing that they should’ve just gotten rid of altogether when they introduced all the other shit to fuck over your opponents and/or help yourself.
Actually, TGM is different sure you can still go for the classic 4 lines over and over again but there is different ways to attack. There is a combo system like you see in other tetris games if you can attack and set up multiple lines you can get more power. Also there is this called a T-spin which you move the T piece in to a place that you can’t instantly drop into the T-Spin double is equal to a Tetris(4 lines) and is easier to set up a combo with.
edit: Items are more of an offensive trigger as you have to get the meter full by clearing lines faster.
Good lord…has anyone taken the time to try out the Crysis 3 beta? I don’t know if it’s just on PS3, but this game looks hideous…like, GTA III status. Textures don’t load properly (or sometimes even not at all), pieces of the environment just appear and dissapear, the framerate is god awful…what the hell? I don’t expect this shit from a Crysis game, not even in a beta.
That’s what I’m saying. They mitigated it, but it still exists, and whenever it’s exploited, it tends to be a game deciding factor. Not sure how such a comeback mechanic can be removed outright without turning the same base attack form into something broke as shit (maybe have it vary the position each attack? I dunno…)

Looks like I’ll be playing some Tetris tonight.
It just means somebody can combo with the garbage I don’t see how it is a comeback mechanic it’s just basic vs tetris but with a combo system.
Especially, if you look at Puyo Puyo Fever now the Fever mechanic is an actual comeback mechanic. To activate fever you have to fill up the meter once full it starts automatically, but in order to fill you have to have clear puyo’s waiting to rain down open you and start your chain.
