As for being surprised about the 13th century thing, I’m not sure why you are. For most of human history, given the state of human longevity and the lack thereof, the majority of cultures, if not most, married off young children (read: girls) pretty early, quite a few as soon as they reached puberty. Considering that some girls can reach puberty as early as 9 or 10…yeah.

And as for being attracted to 16 year-olds being “pedos”, while…at least somewhat unbecoming and inappropriate a lot of the time, it’s not really pedophilia. This especially when there are states within the U.S. that have the “legal age” for sex being equal to or even lower than that. For instance, I’m pretty sure Delaware is like 14 years-old.

This happened to beach volleyball a bunch of years back. The regulatory body actually mandate all the female players to wear the current bikinis or GTFO. They made a huge deal about it and at the end ended up wearing them. Suddenly the popularity of the sport picked up.
