Too much bs at work. Just the other day, project engineering rejected a data sheet I issued because I wrote “City Name, TX” and I got the thing with a red mark saying “TX should be TEXAS”. F—. It’s hard to get anything done with this kind of crap going on. Nowadays, engineers are just office workers or the alternative is you work like a dog (at least 12 hours everyday) in a plant or offshore rig and have to worry about your life (old pipes blowing up, fires, benzene, lead paint on old pipes, asbestos, caustic leaks). I was trying to find a job at a service shop to fix equipment and such but those guys are looking for welders and machinists and such and the engineers are usually the guys handling the paperwork. Working in an engineering firm freaking sucks. You never see the equipment and you spend days arguing about the document numbers of specifications that are not applicable. Fuck this shit, I could go on for what feels like forever. I’m trying to rethink my career because I don’t know if I want to do this all my life.
