I have been saying this FOREVER. One of the reasons I have abandoned explaining things to some people is because they literally cannot see anything but one way. There is no outside the box with them. Everything out of their mouth is “be like me/one of us.” For instance, I have been vocal about not having kids and not getting married. What do the so called "open-minded/educated/mature people tell me? “You have to have at least one.” “You’re going to get married.” And so on. This is what I hate. The value of your life is nothing but a damn token to them. It’s not about what YOU want. Or YOUR happiness. No. It’s about following the crowd. Motherfuckers rather have you suffer till you die and be what they want instead of you being what you want. It’s like some running joke. “What? Mature? Educated? Love thy neighbor? WHAAAA?! Nonsense. It’s all a front to appear civilized.”
The blow that puts the nail in the coffin is that this is normal for them. This is what they raise their children to be. This is acceptable behavior. It’s what they expect out of you. Ugly is the most fitting word I can find.
