I was under the impression that upload speed was critical for fighting games and having four times the upload should make some small difference I guess? But yeah the overall infrastructure of the world sucks. Will we ever have a fully fiber optic wired world in our life times? Believe it or not but there are areas in Canada still using 56K since they find it difficult to get residents wired. The people in Yellow Knife and other crazy arctic like areas.

latency (how quick info bounces around) != bandwidth (how much you can send at a time)
Think of it like water pipes-- you can have a bigass water pipe that lets you transfer a lot of water, but the actual water won’t be travelling any faster. But if the pipe is too small then you might have issues flushing the toilet while someone is taking a shower. Latency doesn’t affect most people, so it isn’t as much of an issue in development-- and the benefits you’d get from going from 50ms to 25ms isn’t worth the cost.
And we’ll never get better net in the states because the market isn’t competitive. Canada is even worse. Google is trying to fix this, but we’ll see how it goes.

There is a LOT of shit that affects internet speeds, that’s what people seem to fail to see. Hell, I know people that only do online gaming during peak hours, and then wonder why its so laggy all the time. Or do stupid shit that interferes with their signal.
