In my grade 6 oral English class today, I opted to have a free talking time, so that they’re forced to use their English and not copypasta from a book.
The topic was their opinion of various countries involved in their lives, which for me, was America (since I’m their teacher), and then S. and N. Korea, since my students are Korean.
I started off with America, and we got to Obama, and I asked their opinion of him.
The follow takes place between when I asked their opinion of Barack Obama, and when my head exploded:
Girl: He’s black!
Me: Yeah, he is black, but what is your opinion of him?
Girl: Um…Obama is black, and Lee Myung Bak (S. Korean president) is yellow.
Me: …
