Hurricane Hugo went through while I lived with my relatives in Charleston, South Carolina. Yeah, I know fear quite well.
Having lived in both Cali and Florida, I can attest that hurricanes ain’t shit compared to a REAL fucking earthquake. They just last a loooot longer.
I remember Hugo. I was in NC at that time.
True story, in Okinawa we lived in an apartment building, master bedroom had a large tree spider outside (orb weaver) that built its web between the bars. Fucker didn’t move damn near the entire time we lived there. Thought it was dead or something (but like Hell I’m opening the window to find out). Then a typhoon hit, I look outside, and I shit you not this fucker’s holding on to the bars for dear life with just its two front legs with the rest of it floating in the wind. Morning after the storm it’s building a new web.

I must have been the luckiest (or unluckiest) of bastards when it came to earthquakes. Stationed there at the beginning and end of my military carreer, and all I ever got was some asshole with a loud car. Not even a good tremor the whole time I was there.
