So I finally played MVC3, and I must say, the game is janky as hell. X-Factor is beyond retarded and the standard damage level seems absurdly high. Chip damage is ridiculously high and push block mashing is a MUST.
**Things I Noticed:
**
-You can get crossed up by certain normals, esp. Spider-Man’s. Sentinel has a weird character model that allows him to easily get crossed up.
-Normals have weird priority, it seems to be based on who mashes out their move first rather than actual superior hit collision, as I used normals that had seemingly disjointed hitboxes get stuffed by regular normals on occasion. This might be just poor observation though.
-X-Factor + Sentinel is the most retarded thing I’ve seen so far. Half the time I can’t even finish a standard AC without a KO simply because Sent does SOOOOOOOO much damage in general, w/ X-Factor it feels unfair.
-Sentinel has no Super Armor, but it doesn’t matter.
-IIRC, you can still call assists during flight mode.
-Chun’s Lightning Leg assist is really good and seems to surpass any other assist I was experimenting with. As along as you call assists out before getting hit, they will do their full attack whilst you being combo’d. Kinda lame, but it also helped me out as well.
-But assists can’t be spammed, as they can be severely punished in a game with this level of high damage. In fact, Duo/Triple Attack supers are a pretty good way of punishing both the onscreen character and the assist, and can often be comboed into if the point character can combo their super normally. I can easily foresee these team hypers being a metagame standard in the future, just through convenience alone.
-Mag’s EM Disruptor REALLY DISRUPTS. You can’t sleep on the LP version, it will interrupt any advance or random super. Probably the best special move that I’ve seen so far.
-Sentinel’s explosive Launcher has a HUGE disjointed hitbox. It can hit some characters 2.5 lengths away!
-The air combo system seems to be fairly character and matchup specific, and mostly consists of mashing Medium button on larger characters. snore :bluu:
-Phoenix is lol. She might have potential, but the amount of damage she takes makes Strider look like Hyper Armor Colossus.
-The most annoying thing, esp. playing on a big screen tv is that most of the backgrounds have the same color tonality as the characters, making some costumes/colors extremely hard to see. Spiderman’s black costumes are key ones.
Overall the game looks fun, but for all the wrong reasons. My other minor complaints mostly have to do with my lack of knowledge with the game mechanics and the weird feel of the game. I don’t feel like taking it seriously, but I do want to wreck scrubs so…
