Student killed at J’Ouvert wanted man to stop grinding on her:
**
Tiarah Poyau was fatally shot during the J’Ouvert festival. An all-American college student was fatally shot in the face at the J’Ouvert festival in Brooklyn for having the nerve to tell a man to stop grinding against her, police sources said Tuesday.
St. John’s University student Tiarah Poyau, 22, was walking the pre-West Indian Day Parade route with three pals early Monday when she was accosted and told the man, “Get off me,’’ according to a source.
Her friends, who were walking ahead of her around 4:15 a.m., then heard a shot and saw her fall at Empire Boulevard and Franklin Avenue. Poyau had been shot in the eye “at close range,’’ the source said.

“This young lady is just a stellar person,” said Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce. “No issues in her life whatsoever, and none before either.”**

The boozed-up 20-year-old thug who shot her was nabbed Tuesday morning while drunkenly driving on three wheels and with a Caribbean flag wrapped around his bloody hand, according to police.
Before his bust, suspect Reginald Moise told pals, “I think I shot somebody on the parade route. I didn’t know the gun was loaded,” sources said.
Moise, who has five sealed prior arrests, first fled to his girlfriend’s Crown Heights apartment after shooting Poyau, according to police sources.
“He makes a phone call directly after the shooting and tells a friend of his, ‘Would you mind if I put my gun into your apartment?’ ” Boyce said.
Sources identified the friend as Moise’s gal pal. At the woman’s pad, a drunken Moise fired two rounds into a mirror, injuring his hand. One of the bullets entered the home of a neighbor, who alerted police, according to law enforcement sources.
Moise then fled in his gray Ford Explorer, crashing into several parked cars and losing a wheel before patrol cops stopped him around 8 a.m. at Parkside Avenue and Murray Place, according to police.
Meanwhile, cops who responded to the shooting at his girlfriend’s apartment found the weapon used to shoot Poyau, police said.
Ballistics testing matched it to a shell found at the festival shooting site, according to Boyce.
“On the scene, we find an aluminum-jacket 9 millimeter. It’s not particularly common, but we’ve seen them before,” Boyce said.
“This aluminum-jacket 9 millimeter is also at the crime scene on Empire Boulevard. We start to get suspicious. We then send it down to the lab, and they make the comparison. It’s the same gun.
“We then begin to speak to him in the [71st Precinct] . . . where he goes on to state that he thinks he shot somebody, ‘The gun went off, I thought it was loaded, I’m not sure,’ ” Boyce quoted Moise as saying. “And then he requested an attorney.”
Moise was charged with second-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
A family member of Moise said the young man was simply in “the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“The real killer is still on the loose. They have the wrong person,” the relative said.
Police sources said they feared the Brooklyn DA’s Office was considering downgrading the murder rap to manslaughter.
But another law enforcement source said, “We’re in the preliminary stages of that [DA] investigation drawing up a complaint. We are in the process of sorting out what the charges are. I wouldn’t make any leaps of judgment as to what they will be.”
Poyau’s friends were relieved cops found her alleged killer.
“At least we are going to get some type of justice,” said Walberto Perez, 23, who went to high school with her. “It’s just horrible.”
Poyau’s neighbor Anna Jackson, 57, said she wants the arrest to send a message to others.
“I hope this is a lesson to the next one who wants to act wild and go to a parade to shoot up someone,” she said. “Why would you bring a gun to a parade? You’re supposed to go to have fun, not shoot people.”
Police are still investigating the death of 17-year-old Tyreke Borel, who was also fatally shot during the predawn festival. No one has been arrested in connection with that shooting.[/details]
This is why I always avoided these big city events like the plague.
I heard about these festivals in that area- filled with gangbangers and drunkards, and every year some stupid shit goes down and at least one person gets killed. Like what’s the point of continuing these events in this location if it’s endangering people to this degree?
So now this grad student with a potentially bright future dies pointlessly.
