(CNN) The American heroin epidemic has become more dangerous, as reports of heroin laced with carfentanil are being reported throughout the country.

Carfentanil is the most potent opioid used commercially, 10,000 times stronger than morphine. It is a version or analogue of fentanyl, the painkiller that most recently made headlines with its role in the death of pop star Prince.

Carfentanil can slow breathing significantly. It’s not approved for human use but is used commercially to sedate large animals, such as elephants. About 2 milligrams can knock out a nearly 2,000-pound African elephant.

Its potency is deadly, and it’s causing concern for those fighting the heroin epidemic, as recent overdose outbreaks in Ohio, Indiana and Florida have been linked to the drug.

Public health warnings

In July, officials in Hamilton County, Ohio, issued a public health warning (PDF) after seeing 35 overdoses, including six deaths, in a three-day period.
On Wednesday, authorities reported a spike in heroin overdoses, with 36 reports of overdoses and two deaths. According to CNN affiliate WCPO in Cincinnati, one of the deaths was a man described as being in his 30s who died in the parking lot of a Rally’s Hamburgers.

Police told WCPO that it appeared more than one dealer was involved in distributing the potent mix. Hamilton County Heroin Task Force Director Tom Synan added that almost all the recent overdoses are in the same area on the west side of Cincinnati, leading officials to suspect it’s all the same batch. Cincinnati is in Hamilton County.

Synan said the county has seen close to 90 heroin overdoses since this weekend.

Hamilton County usually sees about 25 overdoses in an average week, so these numbers represent a huge increase.

“We do not know for sure, but we suspect the heroin is laced with carfentanil,” says Synan

Across the state line in Jennings County, Indiana, there were 11 heroin overdoses during the same time period on Tuesday, according to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles of the Indiana State Police.

It is not clear whether the Indiana and Ohio overdoses are connected, but officials are investigating the possibility.
This month, a seizure of carfentanil in Manatee County, Florida, coincided with an increase in overdose deaths there.’

Little data to track the drug

The Drug Enforcement Administration does not track carfentanil cases separately. Most states flag a handful of fentanyl analogues in postmortem testing, but very few labs across the country are equipped to test for it or have any reference materials to help identify it. The University of Florida Forensic Toxicology Lab is currently developing a new test to identify the drug.

Like fentanyl, carfentanil is dangerous not just to users but to anyone who comes into contact with it. Grains of it can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled.

According to the DEA, most fentanyl analogues in the United States are being manufactured in China and transported through Mexico.

(CNN) There were 27 heroin overdoses within four hours, including one death, in Huntington, West Virginia, on Monday. Officials believe the drug may be laced with something to make it particularly dangerous.

“I do not know what it was laced with, but I would love to know at this point,” Cabell County EMS Director Gordon Merry said.

There is some hope that the death can lead to some clues about what may be making the drugs so dangerous. Huntington Chief of Police Joe Ciccarelli said. “The state medical examiner will conduct a toxicology analysis to determine what was in the drug, but that will not come back for about 10 weeks. The calls started coming Monday afternoon, overwhelming the 911 call center and taxing ambulance resources in the area, according to Merry.
“We had tied up seven ambulances within minutes due to overdose calls and still needed more, which we had to get from other parts of the county. It was basically like a mass casualty event,” said Merry.

“Huntington has a population of about 50,000 people and usually sees around 18 to 20 overdoses in a week. So this was a huge increase, catastrophic,” he added.

All of the overdoses happened within a mile and a half radius, which leads officials to believe they are from the same batch of heroin. The overdose victims ranged from 20 years old to 50, according to Merry.

Eight people were revived using naloxone, an opioid-reversing drug. Others were revived by manual resuscitation, with a bag that simulates breathing. One of the victims had to be given naloxone three times because the heroin and whatever it was laced with was so strong, according to Merry.

Overdoses on the rise

Huntington is in Cabell County, where there have been at least 440 overdoses this year. Twenty-six of those were fatal, said Scott Lemley, an investigator with the Huntington Police department.

There were 413 overdoses countywide during the same period last year. But there were 35 deaths in the county over the first half of last year, so there’s been a 26% decrease, according to Lemley.

“I can’t speak directly to this case, but we have been preparing for heroin laced with elephant tranquillizers, which is the latest thing communities close to us are dealing with,” said Michael Kilkenny, director of the health department.

“When I graduated from medical school in 1982, we used opioids for patients with acute pain and those close to death and dying only, not for chronic pain, because they were thought to be addictive. Then, in the 1990s, our thinking changed and we thought we were under-treating pain, so we started using more opioids,” he said.

But since then, the thinking reversed again. “In Huntington, we began prescribing much less opioids in 2010 because we thought they were harming people. We thought we were becoming more responsible, and people would stop using opioids when we stopped prescribing them. But then they turned to heroin. In many cases it wasn’t to get high, it was just to keep from going into withdrawal. It’s a very miserable existence for people, but heroin is cheaper.”

The Cabell-Huntington Health Department is trying to combat the heroin problem with education and needle exchange programs and by providing naloxone to law enforcement and community organizations, according to Kilkenny.

jailbreaking a iphone gets you something equivalent to a unrooted android. unfortunately rooting a android device doesnt get you to a full windows experience where your os is open source.

i remember when me and you would pm each other about ppsspp and how that emu worked so well on apple os.
in those days that emu really sucked for android.
its been far improved recently, both on android and on windows pc version.
i remember people would foolishly thing that quad core androids were “more powerful” than dual core iphones cuz of the extra 2 cores.

just keep in mind that every android device/phone…have different particular bloatware that can never be fully uninstalled or you risk bricking it.
for example on my old ass lg motion i couldnt remove a few apps like google play books or it would brick.
also, some phones have a locked bootloader so you cant install shit like custom roms.
but you have a samsung device so you are good bro.
after rooting it install TWRP recovery and make a copy of your system os in case you fuck something up.
TWRP is good because it runs independently of the os. you boot into it independent of the os sorta like the way you boot into a pc bios independent of windows.
after you make a copy of your factory os with twrp you are good to go at running any rom or customization you want without worry, including removing any bloatware app.
if something goes wrong just flash back to factory os by twrp.

I wish there was a way to make my.phone stop reloading tabs every time i flip back to them. Just because I was reading a different tab for a minute doesnt mean i want the tab i was on to reload the whole.damn page when i flip back to it. veey annoying.
