Standing outside with my dog, and I’m looking out into the alley between houses, and I see something fall and hit the ground in the alley. Thought it was a stick or something from a tree, but I could instantly see it didn’t look like it, so I got a closer look.

It was a squirrel. Young one. Fell out of the tree and hit the ground hard. I thought it was dead instantly but it went to twitching and heavy breathing. Neighbor saw it and took it with him, and it died almost right after. Don’t know if it was already sick and dying or if it just flat out fell, but still. Damn.

Not the first instance of a critter kickin’ it in my vicinity either. Had a bird fly into the living room window of a previous house. That one didn’t even get a chance to keep breathing. Dead on impact.

It’s gonna die. They are notoriously difficult to nurse. If it fell out of the tree and the mother isn’t around to take it back, then it’s fucked.

I had one do that and it died on me.
