Neither one is more correct than the other for the vast majority of purposes, including this one. The main difference is a matter of style and preference. I use “octopi” because it’s easier to say.

Hmm. I was under the impression that the accepted term changed every now and then, and that the -i suffix is used incorrectly on a lot of words. All of the marine biology majors I’ve talked to use octopuses and say that’s what they were taught. But hey, looks like I learned something today!
