I think 90s CGI was better because they could match the cinematographic hues of the actual backgrounds in their movies. 90’s cinematography was darker for the most part, but today CG look so out of place ebcause the have that electronic glow to them. Similar to how you could always tell an object was going to be animated in a 60s Hanna Barbera cartoon simply from the difference in saturation.

They knew it didn’t look photorealistic and did their best not to put it in everybody’s face. “They” being Steven Spielberg and pre-Titanic James Cameron, two guys who actually know how to make a movie. It’s a lesson that many subpar filmmakers since then did not learn.

The human eye can tell the difference between something that actually existed/was filmed in physical space and something that was cartooned out of nothing in a computer. For that reason, CG is best used as a cleanup tool and for subtle effects. If it’s something people are actually supposed to be looking at, practical effects are still the way to go and probably will be for a very long time.

Flash fact: Jurassic Park is famous as the first big CG movie, but CG is used very sparingly. They mostly relegated CG to long shots or any shot in which it was absolutely unfeasible to use an animatronic puppet or other practical effect.

Despite how much I’ve come to dislike all Jurassic Park movies, I have respect for the fact that they don’t overuse CGI. It also helps that older movies didn’t overuse CGI partly because they still tended to build props and crap. I’m not sure whether it was that egregious close-up during the Burly Brawl scene of the second Matrix movie that inspired most movies to get lazy or what.

Currently on SyFy- -Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus, starring Jaleel White! Yeah, that’s how SyFy rolls on the weekend, and I love it.

Ooh, it would be nice if I could make Jaleel in Saint’s Row 3, in an Urkel outfit… it’s probably not possible though; the clothing aspect of customization in SR3 was quite limited, sadly. Oh yeah… maybe I could make Carl Winslow and put him in the police officer outfit…yeah, some SR3 is definitely on the schedule for later today…

Mr. White–heh, I always find it amusing how people with “White” as a given name tend to be black and vice-versa–has had a rather odd resurgence in “popularity” as of late between that (horrible) movie, apparently being on that (horrible) Dancing with the Stars and be the host of that (horrible?) new Syfy reality show Total Blackout.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Family Matters cast is nowhere in sight. I guess it’s fitting Urkel/Stephen out-lasted everyone of them given he was arguably the most popular/meme-worthy thing about the show.

No, this was bad. Like every part of that movie wasn’t explained, and whenever they needed to know the next step or do something, they just made shit up. I’m sorry, but when your main alien looks exactly like Mork from Ork, and pretty much pretends to be Robin Williams (could they not afford the REAL Robin Williams?), your movie is doomed to fail. Seriously, I want one of the more movie oriented people here (Angry Lib, goodmourning, you, etc) to watch this and then try to tell me that you don’t facepalm at the LITERALLY plot device characters that pop up one after another.

I think it’s because, surprisingly, Robin Williams actually does have some modicum of pride. That and I’m not even sure he’s been in anything since, what, Death to Smoochie? One-Hour Photo? Your Mom?

As for doing an in-depth “this shit is bad” viewing of it, eh, Angry Liberal or goodm0urning (or Gorath if he’s even still around) can handle that, at least while it’s in theater. I can’t stream anything on this computer even though it’s running (moderately) faster after cleaning all of the unused crap out of it and there’s no way in hell my miserly ass is paying for it in a theater.

They also happened to make a time travel movie, where people had like ZERO care about shit in the past.

By “ZERO care about shit in the past”, I’m assuming you mean that they had zero care about not potentially catastrophically changing the timeline beyond saving K, correct? Actually, since I’m morbidly curious and you’re insistent about how they didn’t explain anything, I have to ask something: Did they even explain how J ended up remembering K in the first place if K had ended up “dying 40 years ago” like the trailer said? Why did J remember if no one else did?

Yeah all old cartoons were like that. I’d watch He-Man as a kid, and you just knew which boulder was getting thrown, or somebody was being thrown into it. CGI has a lot of telltale signs, especially if the movie is being streamed off a website.

Yeah, I think most cartoons did this until like the last decade, which is why I remember noticing how prevalent it was as a pre-teen.
