Julie Banderas is on Fox right now, finally… she hasn’t gotten much airtime lately and that’s a shame. Of course she’s looking better than ever… Julie is now officially back into the Magnificent 5™, taking the #5 spot. That bumps Hayden Panetierre back down to Satellite status. It’s also a tough call on whether or not women from the news media can even be in the M5 anyway, since they could never show as much skin as an actress or singer, obviously. “Elite News-Babes” may need to be established as a completely separate list and category anyway. (*There, Julie would no doubt be my #1 on that list.)

This recent development also makes things more difficult for the newly legal Ariana Grande, sadly (I was initially going to put her in the #5 spot). Her status is being reviewed at this moment, and a decision should be made very soon. It’s not easy maintaining a list of Super-Elites, y’know… 'tis quite a daunting task, lads. There’s such a large number of unbelievably hot famous women out there to evaluate.

he’s more become john romita jr in the sense of the artistic style he is now. he isnt really about the details of the characters or surroundings. romita jr now does this crazy simplistic style and yet it works…jim lee does the same thing but with alot of cross hatching involved. didnt realize their was crazy hate for jim lee…srk is really my only interaction with comic fans. so its interesting to hear your guys views on things.

Here we go. 1:45.

Jim Lee is good (which is the problem because the fanbase considers him a god), there’s a lot better artists in comics (even though most of those better artists can’t commit to deadlines for shit), but he fucking is not Liefeld. I always liked that simple contoured look that JR Jr, Klaus Janson, Tim Sale goes for.

it took me a long time as a kid to really appreciate romita jr’s style…contoured as a whole style. but as i got older i look back at those issues and understand it so much more.

seeing the sweet ropeless jumprope led me to a buddy lee video, i was all like wtf he still doin this, we had a buddy lee vhs back when i was in rasslin the other side of 2000

Holy shit, it’s Michael from Lost Boys!

Neverending Story 1 is still my shit. Same thing Pagemaster. My childhood forced me to still love them.

This makes me want to watch the entire film.

Sheeeeit,

“Stop fighting me, Michael… I don’t want to kill you… my blood is in your veins…”
"…SO IS MINE!"

*“How are those maggots? You’re eating maggots, Michael… how do they taste?” *Yes yes…the movie that had Jack Bauer as a vampire and both Coreys, the time-slip predecessor to Renee Zellwegger, Diane “always looks like she smells something/scrunchy faced” Weist, Alex Winter of “Bill and Ted” fame (*and from The Idiot Box, though nobody remembers that hilarious show but me)…and their grandpa who looked like Willie Nelson. Also, that girl “Star” was a hot piece of ass.

**“Don’t fight, Lucy… it’s so much better if you don’t fight.*” *
"…you’re the secret that David was protecting…"
Yeah, I’ve seen that movie so many times it’s insane.

Jami Gertz would still get it, and that scene with the ants eating dudes arm is the only part of Solarbabies that I still remember.

She still is

It’s probably my #1 favourite movie.

No other rendition of Punisher looks legit to me except for Romita Jr’s.

I wasn’t talking about incompetence, which I very specifically pointed out. There is more than one thing wrong with that design aesthetic. It takes “grim ‘n’ gritty” and makes it look as clownish as possible–in every damn situation, no matter how inappropriate. He goes so far out of his way to stylize everything that it impedes the storytelling, which comic art should never, ever do. Above it all, it just looks silly, like a 12 year old’s idea of cool, moody comics.

I know I loved me some John Byrne as a kid growing up. Dude could make some great covers that made you actually want to pick up an issue.

Plus he made Shulkie cool. Shulkie > Deadpool when it came to humor and the whole talking to the reader. Byrne did that shit first.

all this comic talk has made me fire up the torrents. Incidentally, my favorite artist is Ron Lim, mostly cause I loved his work in Silver Surfer/Infinity Gauntlet.

Byrne could be good, but he was really inconsistent.

Actually, when Byrne is good, it looks like George Perez art. And Perez is as consistent as it gets.

You are dead to me.

I get that but I question the motive behind dropping Liefeld’s name, when an entire generation of artists from the 80s/90s that Lee and Liefeld belonged to, learned to draw comics ‘that way’ (I don’t know the name of it… I’ll just call it the ‘Jim Lee style’ because he’s the one who popularized it) for a paycheck, because that was what fans demanded. Campbell, Silvestri, Jae Lee, Travis Charest, Madureira etc etc etc… those artists either improved on that basic style (Silvestri, Campbell etc), changed it completely (Joe Mad, Charest etc), or stagnated… I’d put Lee in the ‘stagnated’ category. Liefeld’s category is the ‘talentless hack that never studied art tips out of the back of a Wizard magazine, never mind enrolled in formal art training’ category.

Out of that pool of artists I don’t understand why you referenced the artist with the WORST reputation of the group to support your “design aesthetic” argument, as if it’s fair to ignore the vast differences between Lee and Liefeld’s skill levels. Might be a coincidence, might be trolling. Long as you’re not saying Jim Lee shares anything remotely in common with Liefeld. There’s nothing in Liefeld’s career that compares to the best material Lee’s eked out.

I use Liefeld’s name because many of the people who profess to hate his amped-up, Saturday morning action c artoon style are guilty of loving those same stylistic hallmarks when present in other artists’ work.
