Yea but hell pop your head into most any movie discussion on the web and they wont be talking about 2001, or Eternal Sunshine, they’ll be talking about stuff that’s coming out now. They only talk about those older movies when someone brings them up for some reason or if their trying to make an argument for kind of cinematic something or other. They don’t sit there and wax poetic about old movies. They might say shit like “Oh man movies where so much better back in the day” but that’s just typical nostalgia old man bullshit cuz history has proven that for the most part the same amount of quality stuff is coming out. The only real difference is that you might have to put some leg work in to find it.
And OS is my Dirty Back Alley Rock and Roll version of Cowboy Bebop. It’s not as refined or classy but its still pretty fuckin awesome.
Edit: Yea i’d say anyone who is looking to check out older Anime might take interest in OS because there’s not really a show like it. It mixes Future tech with magic, ships with arms that do melee combat, a [pretty unique cast and is violent as hell for the type of show it is and it’s aged rather well. I believe it’s even in the list of most recommended for the Anime Thread on SRK.
I think OS is very capable of that. It’s the poor man’s Bebop. The same can be said for Kenshin’s obscurity in 20 years. As we are comparing a feature film to a daily/weekly tv spot. OS is still > Akira? durr

A Kenshin something is on the way. We dunno if it’s a remake or a follow up or a continuation from a certain point…least far as I know. Maybe more has been said I haven’t heard. I hope it’s a straight remake but i would be cool with it picking up after…oh…the last good Arc…the fuck was it called? It’s been a really long time when it comes to Kenshin.
Akira had on its side being one of the first and helping usher in an acceptance of Anime for America. I really think its incredibly over hyped much like Eva.

It’s a space show about traveling through space on a ship with an oddball crew, crazy badguys/syndicats/bounties to be had. They have a lot in common. I wouldn’t call them exactly the same but they share a number of similarities.
It’'s been coming on again for a couple of weeks. Adult Swim loves it. According to them it’s “The greatest show we ever aired.” I think The Pillows were involved.
Goddamn that Toonami ad made me feel old. Its too bad that CN fell so hard since then. The only shows worth watching now are the ones on Adult Swim or Adventuretime.
Ugh, I’ve just been watching UFGT7–such a horrible abbreviation, Keits–on and off all day since today has been such horrible day in general. I’d probably have forced myself to go to sleep already if it wasn’t for the fact that FMA: Brotherhood comes on in two hours. Might as well watch these Super Turbo and Vampire Savior ones, especially since I see Anakaris in the latter.

If by SSB4 you mean Super Smash Brothers 4 with Sakurai still over it intentionally sabotaging the engine and transparently pushing up Kirby and Starfox (and Metal Gear Solid) characters, then no.

The DBZ (anime) sucked and you know it. Old does not automatically equal good, even if it did get a good many people into anime. Just like how Akira isn’t coherent like Radiantsilvergun3 pointed out even though I will forever respect that it got the fact that there isn’t sound in space correct.

Filler aside, DBZ is solid enough, and nerds hate that more than six people in the western hemisphere have heard of it. Likewise with Akira, which is remarkably coherent given the expansiveness of its source material.
Those older shows were over and repeatedly shown a long time ago, so it’s understandable that there is no more commentary about them, while “The Big 3” are still going on. It is sad to see what happened with Naruto…even though it had such a flimsy, loose, barely-there interpretation of “ninja” to begin with… it was still enjoyable. Whoah they just showed the hot red-headed MILF on that Adult Swim commercial…oooh so nice… As I was saying, it was still good, until things went to hell after the great Sasuke vs. Naruto fight by the waterfall. Shippuden brought it back to being good for a short time, then things went back to the Boring Zone™ once again. Also, the fights stopped being about “superior tactics = win” a LONG ass time ago… each one just became like one super mutant freak fighting another mutant freak…like something that would be more at home in the Marvel universe. Y’know, maybe it’s better to have a show end (like the older ones mentioned) before it goes into a downward slide in quality. The same downward spiral happened to my beloved Bleach as well… I’m sure a lot of folks probably gave up quite awhile ago, and I’m finally starting to reach that point too. Nothing has been grabbing me since the end of the great era of Aizen. Fullbringers…ehhh it’s just not working for me. It certainly hasn’t been anywhere near as good as way back in the Soul Society part of the story… there were so many awesome moments from that… like Ichigo meeting Kenpachi for he first time, or his fight with Byakuya, or before that, you had Renji thinking he was the hot shit because he finally learned Bankai, only to get his shit pushed in hard by Byakuya (followed up by that cool speech… "Shall I tell you the difference between you and I?.. IT’S CLASS.…it’s like the story of the monkey, trying to capture the moon…"[yep, I still remember the whole speech] haha, hell yeah, man…B was standing there calmly explaining his supremacy while Renji’s jobber ass was laying in a crumpled, bloody heap, gasping for air like "it’s…not over…it’s…" haha, goddamn I loved that)…and the final reveal of that saga; one of the greatest heel-turns I’ve ever seen. Ohhh those were the days, man. Hmmm… taking this analysis a bit further… my disappointment with the show began with the unbelievably anti-climactic fights with the Espada. These turned out to be some of the most disappointing super-villains in recent history, in terms of how each of them ended up. They were potentially interesting characters, and it’s like the writer himself decided to just take a piss all over this potential.
Continuing my cheap shot at One Piece-- I still can’t get past how ugly it is.
Never had Toonami, but I didn’t miss much since commercials are bullshit, fan subs and dvds. FMA still looks weak as fuck so that can go kick rocks, and anyone else who likes that show can too. Gurren Lagaan proved there could be quality anime made after 2005, but nothing good came after GL(in b4 a list of pedo shows).
