get a real strat? that link just looks like a copy.

feel is everything. try before you buy. $400 seems a bit cheap.

What do you mean? That the RGXA2 looks like a strat copy?

It’s not suppossed to be and that’s not the reason I like it. I like it(visually) because of it’s sleek minimalistic design.

that’s what i thought from looking at it for a second. i’m no expert. my only point is don’t go cheap on a guitar. you get what you pay for.

Not really. And that guitar is pretty much nothing like a strat. Name a detail, and it’s completely off. And how are you going to tell him not to “go cheap” and then recommend getting a “real strat?” Do you know how much MIM strats cost? Around $400.

Fender’s lower end stuff hasn’t been worth the price in over a decade. I’d say go with the YAmaha over a Mexi strat. I miss the days when Fender used to make those great Japanese guitars. Man, those things were cheaper, but just as good as the American ones.

It’s not even a choice. It’s some dude going “hey, that guitar very vaguely resembles an instrument I’ve heard of before. You should get that instead. Why does it smell like shit every time I talk?” The guitars are pretty much nothing alike.

lol you obviously understand nothing about music. not to insult you, but you really don’t. music is infinite, it can be reinvented at any time, playing rhythms (or any music for that fact) isn’t about numbers it’s about feeling what you’re playing. parryperson is right when he says all guitarists only learn notes and nothing else, that’s why they make awful music. i hope that instead of replying to say how wrong i am you just sit down, throw on some good music and open up your ears.

How can you tell me that I “obviously understand nothing about music” when you’ve only read 2 paragraphs that I’ve written? Ever heard of don’t judge a book by its cover? Not to insult me? lol… you’ve being redundant and make yourself look stupid man.

I’m still right… you can’t reinvent the wheel. Its all been done before. Its not that you’re wrong, its that I’m right. “Good music” is subjective and therefore irrelevant in this discussion. What I’m saying is that every musical scale has been already used and a lot of music today sounds very much alike because it is! Its all been done before.

The thing about that guitar is that while it’s really light, the pickup selector switch isn’t…well, fast. If you want to switch from the neck to the bridge on the fly, you have to get used to using the knob. I dunno, the ones that I’ve tried were all mishandled by the music stores so I didn’t get a good impression of that guitar (even though I wanted to like it since I have a Pacifica myself). And yeah, that guitar is nothing like a Strat. Who even said that??? How ridiculous.

Needs a battery for the lights, too. But it is REALLY light(not heavy)and that’s one of the best things going for it. Sound wise, I really couldn’t tell ya as the ones I’ve tried were mediocre sounding and nothing special at all. But yeah, see above…bad music shops…

Is there a SRK of guitars? Like with a Matchmaker forums? I like to get some “games” in with some local guitar players…

craigslist.org

I have 3 guitars (an acoustic and 2 electric) that I use regularly, and all 3 are tuned differently.

I was just interested in what others thought about alternate tuning, meaning do you guys try to branch out and experiment with different tuning or just stick to what you know?

Once I know my way around the fret board in one tuning I try something else just to see what I can find.

If you really think music sounds like it’s all been done today you don’t listen to enough.

It’s a shame threads like this end up consisting of more “I know it all” douche posts than they do real information. Can we get back on topic? None of this ‘such and such guitar is better than the other imo, and my opinion is the only one that is correct’ crap. Please?

Pretty much the only reason I don’t is because I don’t have enough instruments to keep differently-tuned ones handy, and I"m too lazy to switch around a lot. I have to when I’m trying to play Kaki King shit, though.

I know of a dude who has three of the exact same guitars (with different finishes)…two strung with steels in different tunings, and one strung with nylons. I really want to try playing an electric with nylon strings.

I’ve often thought about doing that myself, and I have a couple questions about it. Is it a common practice? Does it that different from metal?

it won’t work out, nylon strings just don’t work for guitars you plug in. the sound just doesn’t transfer over as well and you lose a lot of tone

I was using Robert Fripp’s weird-ass tuning for a while. It was a fun challenge to deal with a fretboard that’s completely counterintuitive for a conventionally trained guitarist, but it’s pretty impractical for band use.

Unless your guitar has a piezo pickup built in, you wouldn’t hear anything. Electric guitar pickups operate by magnetism, which is why electric guitars are strung with metal strings.

Ah, thx for settling my curiosity

if anyone is interested here is a video of my band playing live a few weeks ago. i’m on the acoustic guitar to try something new and it came out pretty well
